Today we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord Jesus to heaven. He ascends to the Kingdom he has won for us by His Passion, Death and Resurrection. The Prophet Isaiah used intimate bond between the mother and her child to describe the immense love of the Father for us. “I will never forget you my people.” Our Lord Jesus’ Ascension should be seen as an empowerment of his disciples not abandonment. He promised to send the Holy Spirit the Advocate who will accompany them in their journey as a faith community. The encounters and appearances the Risen Lord after Easter with his disciples was intended to strengthen, explain, guide and prepare them to the mission they are about to undertake: bringing the Good News to the ends of the world and baptizing them in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. PARISHES IN COLLABORATION COLLECTION May 19th and May 20th On the weekend of May 19th and 20th, all people of the Diocese of Orange will have the opportunity to donate to the Parishes in Collaboration Collection. This collection is for the purpose of assisting parishes in the Diocese of Orange that exhibit ongoing needs that cannot be paid for by their ordinary income and have urgent needs (such as repairs and maintenance). All money donated tot his collection is put into a restricted fund that will be administered by a group consisting of laity and clergy of the diocese. Parishes with needs as stated above will apply for grants from this fund to be used for their specific needs. Most recently the committee has focused the grants to safety issues including emergency electrical and plumbing repairs. By participating in the Parishes in Collaboration Collection, all people of the Diocese of Orange are helping one another support the works of our parishes that struggle financially. Please use the envelopes designated for this cause. Thank you for your generosity.

Loose cash or checks do not get posted to our database. To have your tithing documented, especially for tax purposes, please be sure to use either the envelopes or WeShare so we may properly record your contribution to the parish. When including a check in the donation envelope, please write your envelopes number (which is also your Parish ID number) in the memo line of your check, as well as list the check number on the envelope. Congratulations to our newly confirmed high school students. Well Done! Confirmation Students having completed CI are welcome to join our youth leadership team. We will meet every two weeks beginning in May to get to know each other and plan for leadership training camp. More info to follow. Confirmation Classes are finished for the year. Make sure you have made up any missed classes so you can proceed. Call the YM office to arrange to makeup missed material.

Our Adult Confirmation program will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation on Pentecost Sunday, May 20th. We pray that the Holy Spirit guide their steps as they keep preparing to receive in their heats the Spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear.

South County Outreach Food Drive May 12 th and 13th Our monthly food drive to assist South County Outreach is held the second weekend of each month. If you are unable to bring your donation this weekend, remember there are baskets in the parish hall that you can put your donations into during the week. Thank Santiago de Compostela Church members. We collected 920 lbs. of food for the month of March. Thank you so much for helping us fill our shelves for our families, seniors and homeless clients!

We are delighted to announce that Ivan Flores is joining our Parish staff as our weekend maintenance. He is a single father of three, currently living in Santa Ana. Ivan is self-motivated and enjoys helping out the community in which led him to enroll in UC Irvine’s Paralegal Certificate Program. Please do everything you can to make him feel welcome and part of our parish family.

Each year the diocesan priests gather with the bishop for a week long retreat and conference. We will still have Daily Mass at 8am.
