Second Sunday of Advent

JMJ December 10, 2017 My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always. One of the other Spirits of Advent Season is “Waiting.” Nobody likes to wait – most often than many of us consider it a waste of time. Other times we get flustered, frustrated and impatient. Many of us have had the experience of traveling with someone periodically asking: “Are we there yet?” God our Loving Father who knows well our human condition – oftentimes we are impatient for things to happen – gives us events that are like the stopovers we do during our road trips through life. One is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception last December 8th. Yes, it is Holy Day of Obligation. Our Loving Father’s loving providence manifested in the gift of an Immaculately Conceived woman, our Mother Mary – a worthy vessel for the love made incarnate in the Emmanuel; “God is with us.” Abba our Father’s mercy and compassion in the gift of the child born of the Immaculate Mother to live, suffer, die and rise again for our salvation. The same gift of a loving, protective mother for a people mired in the deathdealing occult practices, we celebrate on December 12th: the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe – Mother of the Americas. She is also the Patroness of our Diocese. There will be songs offered from the heart, flowers expressing devotion, dances capturing the joy and prayers lifted up because indeed she is our Advocate. We also have our Annual Marian Exhibit we have eventually called “Faces of our Blessed Mother.” We can familiarize ourselves with the many manifestations of the Mother of God. It shows clearly how she has been involved in the lives of the faithful and how she has been honored for her intercessory actions on

behalf of the children entrusted to her when our Lord said at the Crucifixion: ”Woman behold thy Son, Son behold thy Mother.” Advent is the time when we prepare ourselves for Christmas, the Birth of the Emmanuel. We are having our Parish Penance Service this coming December 11th at 7:00 pm. Several Priests will be available to foster an experience of God’s mercy and compassion. Let us make it our way of preparing for the Season of Joy, Peace and Love. God bless and take care. Love and prayers,

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

December 24th and December 25th This year Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday. All Catholics have an obligation to attend Mass twice: once celebrating the Fourth Sunday of Advent (Saturday evening or during the day Sunday) and a second time celebrating the Feast of the Nativity (Christmas Eve beginning at 4pm or Christmas Day). Mary’s example of responding “yes” to the call of God (4th Sunday of Advent Gospel) helps us respond “yes” to accepting the Prince of Peace, Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God into our lives on Christmas. Please see the Christmas schedule above for Mass times.

Advent is a time of preparation, a time to fill our hearts with the Christmas message of Love, Peace, and Joy. Love has many voices. It sends its greeting in the smile you give to others, in the patience you set as an example while waiting in lines, or looking for a parking space, and in struggling with traffic on busy streets or freeways. “God is Love”, says John the Evangelist, “He who dwells in love is dwelling in God and God in him.” Sometimes LOVE just waits and while waiting prepares!! How are you preparing for the mystery of the Incarnation of one who loves us all? Bible Study will continue with its study of Acts of Apostles on January 10th, 2018. Meetings: Wednesdays from 9:00am-11:15am or 7:00pm-9:00pm in Santiago Parish Center For further information contact Nancy 949-766-8126 or Barb 949-768-1170.
