#Holiness is for you, too! This hashtag has been our focus since last January and each month we have been looking at some of our Salesian saints as models of holiness for ourselves. This month we have three very different persons to present: a Polish Prince, an Italian Missionary to Ecuador, a native Indian boy! On August 2, we celebrated the feast of Blessed August Czartoryski, a Polish Prince. His family was one of the most powerful in Poland, until exiled by the Russians in 1830. His family moved to Paris where he was born in 1858. As a young aristocrat, he heard Don Bosco give a talk and he was totally taken up with Don Bosco and his mission on behalf of kids. He became determined to be a Salesian. August’s family was vehemently against the idea. Don Bosco himself felt the kind of life and work the Salesians did would not be where a prince would find himself comfortable, Don Bosco did not want to admit him into the Salesian Society. The Prince went to Pope Leo XIII who intervened and told Don Bosco to accept him to be a Salesian. His family was so against it, that they were not present either at his Salesian religious profession or his Ordination to the priesthood on April 2, 1892. Soon after, he became bed-ridden due to tuberculosis, and he died a year later on April 8, 1893 at 35 years of age! He is buried in the Salesian Church in Przemysl, Poland. Prince Czartoryski challenges us, I believe, to ask what are our real values? Money? Power? Position? Fidelity to Jesus? On August 25, we will celebrate the feast of Blessed Maria Troncatti; a Salesian Sister, missionary to the Shuar tribe in the Amazon forest in Ecuador. She was sent to the mission in 1922 and remained in the Amazon till her death on August 25, 1969. She was much beloved by the Shuar who called her “Mamacita”. In 1969, two tribes were getting ready to war with each other. Mother Troncatti offered her life as a victim for peace. It seems the Lord accepted her sacrifice and she died in a plane crash on her way to retreat. I had the privilege of visiting her tomb in the Amazon. It is a place of great pilgrimage for the Shuar; the devotion and prayer of the people is something remarkable to see and to participate in, people are there all day long singing and praying. Mother Maria is truly a “beloved” saint for her people. Miracles are common at her tomb and you can feel her presence. Mother Maria challenges us to really care for each other— she offered her life for peace among her people. How do we care for our neighbors and those who are less fortunate? The Third Blessed we remember is Blessed Ceferino Namuncurá, whose feast is August 26. The son of an Argentinean Chieftain. He went to our Salesian school and there fell in love with Don Bosco and our Salesian system and there came to know about St. Dominic Savio; he chose Dominic as his model. His dream was to become a Salesian priest to go back to his people and evangelize them in his own language. This desire burned in his heart. He contracted Tuberculosis. The Salesians sent him to Italy to continue his studies in the hope that the air and food of Italy would help him. Ceferino got continually worse and on May 11, 1905 he died in Rome at the age of 18. At the request of his people, Ceferino’s body was returned to Chimpay in Argentina in 1924. Every year, his sanctuary is a place of huge pilgrimage, especially by young people. Ceferino challenges us to proclaim the Gospel to others. He wanted to be a priest to evangelize “his people” (remember he was the son of a Chief!!) . How are we evangelizing and sharing our faith with “our people” — especially those in our own family? Three Blessed who serve as models of holiness for us and who offer us a practical road to holiness. If each of them became saint, why not me? God bless you!

Este hashtag ha sido nuestro enfoque desde enero pasado y cada mes hemos estado viendo a algunos de nuestros santos salesianos como modelos de santidad para nosotros mismos. Este mes tenemos tres personas muy diferentes para presentar: un príncipe polaco, un misionero italiano en Ecuador, y un niño indio nativo! El 2 de agosto celebramos la fiesta del Beato August Czartoryski, un príncipe polaco. Su familia fue una de las más poderosas de Polonia, hasta que fue exiliada por los rusos en 1830. Su familia se mudó a París, donde nació en 1858. Como joven aristócrata, oyó a Don Bosco dar una charla y fue totalmente ocupado con Don Bosco y cuál era su misión en nombre de los niños. Se decidió a ser salesiano. La familia de August estaba vehementemente en contra de la idea. El propio Don Bosco sintió que el tipo de vida y obra que hacían los salesianos no sería donde un príncipe se sentiría cómodo, Don Bosco no quería admitirlo ante la Sociedad Salesiana. El Príncipe fue al Papa León XIII, quien intervino y le dijo a Don Bosco que lo aceptara como salesiano. Poco después, se quedo postrado en cama debido a la tuberculosis, y murió un año más tarde, el 8 de abril de 1893 a los 35 años de edad. Está enterrado en la Iglesia Salesiana en Przemysl, Polonia. El príncipe Czartoryski nos desafía, creo, a preguntarnos cuáles son nuestros valores reales? ¿Dinero? ¿Poder? ¿Posición? ¿Fidelidad a Jesús? El 25 de agosto celebraremos la fiesta de la Beata María Troncatti; una hermana salesiana, misionera de la tribu Shuar en el bosque amazónico en Ecuador. Su sueño era convertirse en sacerdote para volver a su pueblo y evangelizarlo en su propio idioma. Este deseo ardía en su corazón. Contrajo tuberculosis. Los salesianos lo enviaron a Italia para continuar sus estudios con la esperanza de que el aire y la comida de Italia le ayudaran. Ceferino empeoró continuamente y el 11 de mayo de 1905 murió en Roma a la edad de 18 años. A petición de su pueblo, el cuerpo de Ceferino fue devuelto a Chimpay en Argentina en 1924. Santidade e para você também! Esse lema tem sido o nosso foco desde janeiro e a cada mês analisamos a vida de diferentes santos como modelos para nossas vidas. Para esse mês temos três: Um príncipe polonês, uma missionaria no equador e um índio nativo. 2 de agosto, Augusto Czartoryski príncipe polonês. Sua familia era muito influente ate 1830, quando foram exilados pelos russos. Foram para Paris e la ele nasceu em 1858. Ele ouviu uma palestra de Dom Bosco e se encantou com o carisma salesiano. Ele quis ser salesiano, mas a familia era totalmente contra. O próprio Dom Bosco achou estranho ter um príncipe na sua obra e inicialmente não o admitiu. Ele recorreu ao Papa Leão XIII que interviu e convenceu Dom Bosco a aceitá-lo. Por não aceitar, sua familia não foi a sua ordenação sacerdotal em 2 de abril de 1892. Em pouco tempo ele pegou tuberculose e morreu no ano seguinte, com 25 anos de idade e foi sepultado na Igreja em Prsemysl. Ele nos desafia a lutar por aquilo que acreditamos. Quais são os nossos maiores valores: dinheiro, poder ou fidelidade Deus? 25 de agosto, Maria Troncatti uma irmã salesiana missionaria no Equador. Ela foi enviada como missionaria a floresta amazônica e permaneceu la até a sua morte em 1969. Os indígenas a chamavam de “mamacita”. Em 1969 duas tribos iam entrar em guerra e ela se ofereceu para morrer pela paz entre eles. E ela morreu no mesmo ano num acidente de avião ao voltar de um retiro. Eu visitei o tumulo dela no Amazonas. Ele se tornou um lugar de peregrinação para os indígenas Shuar, os quais recebem muitas graças por intercessão dela. Qual é a nossa preocupação com os mais necessitados? Zeferino Namuncurá celebrado no dia 26 e agosto. Ele era filho de um cacique. Ele frequentou uma escola salesiana e se encantou com o exemplo de São Domingos Savio e quis ser padre para evangelizar a sua tribo. Ficou doente e foi enviado a Itália para continuar os seus estudos la. Em maio de 1905 ele faleceu em Roma, aos 18 anos de idade, e a pedido de seu povo os seus restos mortais foram devolvidos a sua tribo na Argentina em 1924. Todo ano o Santuário dedicado a ele recebe muitos peregrinos, especialmente jovens. Zeferino da exemplo de anunciador do Evangelho. Ele queria evangelizar a sua tribo. To wezwanie jest naszym hasłem od stycznia tego roku i każdego miesiąca przyglądamy się niektórym z naszych świętych salezjańskich jako modelom świętości dla nas samych. W tym miesiącu mamy do zaprezentowania trzy bardzo różne osoby: polski książę, włoska misjonarka w Ekwadorze, rodowity Indianin! 2 sierpnia obchodziliśmy święto błogosławionego Augusta Czartoryskiego, polskiego księcia. Jego ród był jednym z najpotężniejszych w Polsce, aż do inwazji Rosjan w 1830 r. Wtedy jego rodzina przeniosła się do Paryża, gdzie August urodził się w 1858 r. Jako młody arystokrata usłyszał wykład Ks. Bosko i został całkowicie zafascynowany Ks. Bosko i jego misją na rzecz biednej mlodziezy. Zdecydował się zostać salezjaninem. Rodzina Augusta była zdecydowanie przeciwna temu pomysłowi. Sam Ksiądz Bosko uważał, że książę nie będzie w stanie sprostac życiu i pracy, jaką wykonywali salezjanie, dlatego nie chciał przyjąć go do Zgromadzenia. Książę udał się do papieża Leona XIII, który interweniował i zasugerowal Księdzu Bosko, aby go przyjął. Jego rodzina była tak przeciwna, że nie byli obecni ani w jego profesji zakonnej, ani na święceniach kapłańskich, ktore mily miejsce 2 kwietnia 1892 r. Wkrótce jednak ks. August zachorowal na gruźlice i zmarł rok później, w kwietniu 8, 1893 w wieku 35 lat! Został pochowany w Kościele salezjańskim w Przemyślu. Pozycja? … czy wierność Jezusowi? 25 sierpnia będziemy obchodzić święto błogosławionej Marii Troncatti – siostry salezjanki, misjonarki w plemieniu Szuar w Amazonii w Ekwadorze. Została wysłana na misję w 1922 r. i pozostała w Amazonii aż do śmierci 25 sierpnia 1969 r. Była bardzo kochana przez Szuarów, którzy nazywali ją „Mamacita”. W 1969 r. dwa plemiona szykowały się do wojny. Matka Troncatti ofiarowała swoje życie jako ofiara pokoju. Wygląda na to, że Pan przyjął jej ofiarę bo wkrotce potem zginęła w katastrofie lotniczej. Miałem przywilej odwiedzić jej grób w Amazonii. Jest to dla Szuarów miejsce pielgrzymek. Jest czymś niezwykłym uczestniczyć w nabożeństwie i modlitwach ludzi, ktorzy są tam przez cały dzień śpiewając i modląc się. Matka Maria jest naprawdę „umiłowaną” świętą dla swego ludu. Cuda są powszechne przy jej grobie i można odczuć jej obecność. Matka Maria wzywa nas, abyśmy naprawdę troszczyli się o siebie nawzajem. Ona ofiarowała swoje życie za pokój wśród swego ludu. Jak dbamy o naszych sąsiadów i tych, którzy mają mniej szczęścia? Trzecim błogosławionym jest błogosławiony Zeferino Namuncurá, którego swieto obchodzone jest 26 sierpnia. Co roku jego sanktuarium jest miejscem wielkiej pielgrzymki młodych ludzi. Zeferino wzywa nas do głoszenia Ewangelii innym. Chciał być księdzem, aby ewangelizować „swój lud” (pamiętamy, że był synem wodza!). W jaki sposób ewangelizujemy i dzielimy się naszą wiarą z „naszym ludem” - zwłaszcza z naszą rodziną? Trzech Błogosławionych, którzy służą nam za wzór świętości i którzy dają nam praktyczną drogę do świętości. Jeśli oni stali się świętym, dlaczego nie ja? Niech Was Bóg błogosławi! Ks. Pat

The Gospel reading today stresses what is most important in life. God is most important. When God comes first in our lives all other things are put in the right place. Today’s passage begins with a warning against greed. Greed can get in the way of our relationship with God and others. Jesus tells the story of a rich landowner who foolishly plans to store his treasure. Reflection for the week: How can you share what you have with others? How can you put God first in your life? Let us pray the Lord’s Prayer. Generous God, you give us every good gift. Help us to share what we have with others and to treat others with respect.
