20 April 2017

Stuttgart Airport showcases the electrification on the apron at Hannover Messe, the leading trade fair for industrial technology, taking place between April 24 and 28. The airport operator exhibits the latest addition to his steadily growing electric fleet: a baggage tug powered by a lithium-ion battery.

As one of the leading airport operators in terms of electric mobility Stuttgart Airport continues to raise the bar: By the end of 2017 the passenger and baggage transport on the ramp will be completely run by nearly silent and zero-emission drive. 25 electronic vehicles are already in use. During the next three years the electronic fleet will be expanded by 40 ground handling vehicles such as passenger busses, baggage and cargo tugs, conveyor belts and pushback vehicles. Within the scale-up! project Stuttgart Airport, the ground handling service provider Losch Airport Service GmbH and Öko-Institute e.V. cooperate in order to pursue this goal together. Scale-up! explores how sourcing apron vehicles influences the environment and profitability, considering the whole life-cycle from the production, to energy supply and battery disposal.

The booth of Stuttgart Airport at Hannover Messe 2017 is part of the “Baden-Württemberg Joint Stand” (H71), located in the MobiliTec Area of the leading fair ENERGY (exhibition hall 27). Together with Stuttgart Airport 34 companies, research facilities, project networks, cluster and networks from Baden-Württemberg exhibit their mobility technologies.
