Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church Missionaries of the Holy Spirit

Dear Brothers and Sisters, For the past 31 years, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church has been a beacon of hope and the home for spiritual renewal for our community. Our diverse church has been a witness for countless baptisms, confirmations, marriages and funerals. It has hosted the ordination of new priests and witnessed the vibrancy of our youth as they embark on their faith journey. It has been the setting of thousands of liturgical celebrations, adorations, and popular devotions that allow our community to experience and be enlightened by Christ’s love. It is a church of welcome, a church of pilgrimage, and a church of love. However, to continue our ministry at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, we will need your help. The roof of our church building is in dire need of replacement. Our parish has started a fundraising campaign to raise $180,000 to replace the church roof and allow us to continue to be the source of God’s Word in our community. Would you please give your most generous gift toward this vision and partner with us in impacting our faith community? Your help will allow us to preach the gospel, make disciples, and support others in our community who need help. Even if you can’t make a large gift, know that every little bit helps. It’s more about coming together as a community united behind a common cause. We hope that you’ll consider making a donation for our parish, our church, and our faith family. Yours in Christ, Fr. Jose Gerardo Alberto, M.Sp.S. Pastor P.S. If you would like to give by check, please make the check out to “St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church Roof Project”. If you would like to give online, please go to our online giving page in the parish website and select “Give A New Gift” and “Capital Campaign-ROOF”. All gifts are tax deductible.

Conchita, Tell Us about Your Life Conchita tells us about her relationship to the Father One day in 1894, at the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in San Luis Potosi, after receiving communion, sitting there close to the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, I heard the words: “The Father is gazing upon you.” These words made me tremble with awe and filled me with love, though I did not know whose voice it was, I knew it was God the Father that the voice referred to. I used to wonder: “Why is the Father gazing upon me?” At different moments of her life Conchita recalled the experience of the Father’s gaze. With time, she became more aware that “to live under the gaze of the Father is to receive His gift constantly; it is to possess Jesus, the end and precious fruit of His gaze. This gaze is constant even if it is not perceived by the recipient in a conscious way. The Gaze of God becomes “the outpouring of divine love.” It is not only a gaze of love, but a gaze which transforms, which fuses the soul to God.” During her Spiritual Exercises in 1935 she asked in prayer: “My God, my Father! Why do you gaze at me?” The Father looks on His Word, and in His Word He sees you (Conchita) and all things. He is pleased with the Word, He rejoices in His Son, and loves Him through the Holy Spirit. The same way He wants to gaze and love us, in as much as we follow His holy will. “My Father has never stopped gazing on you, Concha, because he is God and He gazes on you with special affection because I, the Word, His Son, am His delight, and where I am, there is the Holy Spirit. And I dwell in your soul.” Conchita says, “I truly feel that gaze which penetrates me and permeates my soul gently. I hope it might purify me, so that I will be worthier of being close to Jesus. May it all be for the Glory of the Father.”

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church Missionaries of the Holy Spirit

A WAITING HARVEST

Vocation Awareness

This is just what Priests do! Priests Bury the Dead, Part II The Catholic Rite of Committal at the cemetery is very brief, though it took a long time for all the people to park and make their way to the grave. Once I had blessed the grave and finished the final commendation, the mother looked at me and said, “Father, please open the casket so I can say goodbye.” I thought to myself, “Oh no. Please don’t do this.” But what could I do? How could I deny the request of a mother burying her only child? So I nodded to the funeral director to go ahead and it was just as I suspected. The mother began to scream and cry, hugging her child in the casket. Her husband was there holding her and crying, and the family was all huddled around. It was a terrible, sad, unforgettable moment in their lives-and in mine.

Jesus said. “Thank you.” And I understood in that instant that he was saying, “Thank you for being a priest. Thank you for burying this child for me, and thank you for ministering to his parents.” I knew without any doubt that it was Jesus because his voice totally and immediately restored my emotional and spiritual strength. I went from being heavy-hearted and sadone of the lowest moments in my life - to being emotionally strong, filled with joy and happiness. I immediately began to thank and praise God. “ No Jesus, I should be thanking you. Thank you, Jesus for being my Savior. Thank you for dying for me. Thank you…” But again the Lord communicated to me clearly and this time he said, “Stop. Be quiet Right now, I just want you to let me thank you.”

As I walked through the cemetery my heart was full, Emotionally, I could not take it and tears poured down and I prayed quietly, “You’re welcome Jesus. You are my cheeks. The funeral was officially over, so I just turned welcome. I am so glad that I am a priest.” away and started walking slowly among the graves, acting This is what priests do. as if I were looking for a certain name on a tombstone. I was really trying to compose myself. After a few minutes, I From the Book suddenly heard Jesus speak to me very clearly. The Lord “To Save a Thousand Souls” has spoken to me many times in my life, but there have Fr. Brett A. Brannen been only a few instances where his voice and message were so clear.

This week please pray for Br. Rodolfo Martinez, MSpS. Brother Rodolfo is taking Theology II classes at the Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio, TX

O Jesus, Our Eternal Pastor, Deign to look with merciful eyes Upon this part of your loving flock. Lord, we need a large number of priests, and men and women consecrated to the religious life. Multiply vocations, And sanctify more and more our priests, And those consecrated in the religious life. We ask you all this through the Immaculate Virgin Mary of Guadalupe, your sweet and holy Mother.

T y p o l o g y Journal Entry #1: No Longer Focusing on the Emotions Kianna Garmanian My friends, I hope this article finds you well. As I was thinking about possible topics to write about, I thought it would be special to begin sharing some of the entries from my faith journal with you each week. About two years ago, I started journaling about my encounters with Christ, faith experiences, conversations with Jesus in prayer, insights that were revealed to me, etc. My hope is that by sharing these entries, you may be able to relate to my experiences, find inspiration, or continue to grow in your own relationship with Christ. The first journal entry I will share this week was written pretty recently (about a few weeks ago.) I was spending time with Jesus in Adoration and a few beautiful insights came to mind - so, I wrote them down. God bless you all! My dearest Jesus,

October 23, 2018

If I am doing your will each day/moment - by saying “yes” to you and doing my daily duties, this is all I need to focus on. By following you, I am truly LIVING. Now, whether I am happy or down, or whether my mind is filled with a million negative thoughts or positive ones- those details don’t matter. Doing your will means doing what you have set out for me each day- by showing up, fulfilling my responsibilities, etc. Now, it’s always nice to be happy and think positively, but this is not always the case/reality. Finally, I understand- IT’S OK! It’s ok to have a million negative thoughts on my mind, as long as they don’t keep me from doing your will each day. I shouldn’t focus so much on the emotions I experience throughout my daily life, but rather, focus on fulfilling all you have in store for me each day. Emotions will come and go. But you, my Lord, are forever with me. Kianna has been a parishioner at I’m struggling, Jesus, but it’s ok. I’m ok. Everything will be ok. Because YOU SEAS together with her family since are with me. With the Heart of Jesus

In the Eucharist we find all the good of the Church. In it we have the certainty that God is faithful to His promise and stays with us until the end of time. In our visits and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, we experience the closeness of the good shepherd, the tenderness of His love, the presence of a faithful friend. We all experience this large support in our lives provided by faith and our personal and intimate dialogue with the Lord in the Eucharist. Come Adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament Monday through Friday from 10am to 9pm.
