Selfishness is the root of S-I-N, Sin.” Bishop Michael Curry We heard a powerful and impassioned sermon on June 17. What a wonderful day! Bishop Curry did not disappoint. I was convicted (brought to new awareness) by his words and the joy with which he delivered them to all of us who came to worship. This event in our lives, which may not happen again for us, brought out the passionate dedication and pride of many of you, who turned that into work to prepare for that day. We and all the community of Episcopalians and people who were just curious all benefitted from your care. Thank you for saying “I love you” in so many palpable ways. Thank you, all of you! You made the whole day joyful, just like the Bishop’s sermon. To have a day of joy and love is an act of defiance in the face of all the terrible issues of our day; of the inhumanity of human beings, of the destruction of our physical world, of the threat of suffering and death. GUARDIAN MAYOR ¡Qué día fue en San Lucas ~ San Lucas el 17 de junio! Como congregación, nos reunimos para prepararnos para la visita del Obispo Presidente Michael Curry, y fue un gran éxito. Como su Guardián Mayor, estoy muy orgulloso de tenerlo como mi familia parroquial y estoy muy orgulloso de cómo los miembros de los tres servicios y de todos los grupos de edad se unieron para contribuir en este maravilloso día. Hay demasiadas personas para agradecer por su nombre y hay demasiadas maneras en que las personas ayudaron incluso a nombrar cada tarea. Pero lo intentaré. Gracias a todos los que hornearon para la recepción. Gracias a todos los que trabajaron en los jardines en los terrenos de la iglesia. Gracias a todos los que montaron sillas. Gracias a todos los que lavaron bancos. Gracias a todos los que pintaron el estacionamiento. Gracias a todos los que trasladaron personas hacia y desde VSAA. Gracias a todos los que se sentaron en un banco diferente para que nuestra iglesia sea un lugar acogedor para los visitantes. Y podría seguir y seguir.

Además de tener el gran privilegio de conocer al Obispo Presidente Curry el 17 de junio, también tuve la gran fortuna de conversar con visitantes de otras congregaciones en el suroeste de Washington. Fueron tan elogiosos para nuestra parroquia, y comentaron lo acogedora que se sintió estar en nuestra iglesia. Estoy tremendamente orgulloso de la bienvenida que SL2 brinda de manera diaria y semanal, a través de nuestros programas de alcance y nuestros servicios de adoración regulares, estos comentarios de los visitantes fueron uno de los momentos más destacados de mi día, demostrándome que realmente estamos haciendo el trabajo nos estamos preparando para hacer. GUARDIAN MENOR La visita del Obispo Presidente fue un gran éxito, sin problemas técnicos, buen clima, una cálida bienvenida y un sermón inspirador. Jamie y yo obtuvimos nuestra selfie como muchos de ustedes. A veces conoces a alguien e inmediatamente te gusta y Bishop Curry fue una de esas personas. Durante un breve recorrido por nuestro refugio para mujeres, se encontró con una de nuestras mujeres que de inmediato comenzó a buscar a tientas las muchas cosas que llevaba para poder tener una mano libre para sacudir la suya. Extendió la mano y tomó su taza de café, sacudió su mano recién disponible mientras ambos decían que era un honor conocerse. Terminó devolviéndole la copa, sonrió y dijo: "¿Quiere un café?" PANTALLA DE TUBO DE ÓRGANO NARTHEX La primavera pasada, Jamie y yo hicimos una caminata el viernes por la mañana, como solemos hacer, en el distrito de Sellwood en Portland. A lo largo de nuestra ruta nos encontramos con Old Portland Hardware and Architectural en SE Tacoma, un "emporio ecléctico" de hardware antiguo y "funky finds". No pudimos resistirnos a navegar Una exhibición que tenían era un conjunto de viejos tubos de órgano de madera organizados y montados en la pared. Esto se convirtió en una inspiración para mí. Sabía dónde había algunos tubos de órgano usados (en nuestro campanario) que debían protegerse y conservarse. También sabía de una pared en blanco (nuestro nártex expandido) que pedía que se mostrara algo. Jamie y yo recogimos las sesenta y seis tuberías que habían sido removidas para dejar espacio para la nueva parada de trompeta de órgano recientemente instalada. Estas pipas eran originales para nuestro Órgano Adams 1890 fabricado en Providence, RI para una Iglesia Católica del Sagrado Corazón en Central Falls, Rhode Island. Por cierto, mi padre nació en Central Falls y esta fue su iglesia de la infancia en la comunidad de habla francesa que hace que este proyecto me resulte más caro. Se nos ocurrieron algunos arreglos de montaje, solicitamos algunas opiniones y decidimos cuál sería el diseño que mejor se ajustaba al espacio. Jamie pintó el tablero de montaje mientras medía el diseño para asegurarse de que era simétrico. Soy un ingeniero, después de todo. Mi primer objetivo fue no dañar las tuberías y lo logramos. Cada tubo se mantiene en su lugar mediante un bucle de cable de cobre en la parte inferior y un clip en la parte superior.

Mientras pasaba el cable por los orificios preperforados, Jamie se agachaba debajo de la placa de montaje y los ataba uno a uno, sesenta y seis veces, dejando cada tubería intacta y capaz de devolverse al órgano si era necesario. UNA EXCURSIÓN EN 1871 La fecha es el 31 de agosto de 1871. La Diócesis Misionera de Oregón y Washington se reúnen en Portland. Nuestro rector en St. Luke's, Rev. Nicholson, ha estado recaudando dinero para un nuevo edificio de la iglesia, y había llegado el momento de colocar la piedra angular. El Reverendo Nicholson y otros líderes de St. Luke se dieron cuenta de que tenían una oportunidad con la convención anual de la diócesis que se estaba desarrollando en este momento. Así que organizaron una excursión para los asistentes a la convención. El barco de rueda de paletas, The Vancouver, fue fletado. Edding's Hall (propiedad de uno de los líderes de nuestra iglesia) fue reservado y preparado para un gran banquete. Se publicaron anuncios en Portland y Vancouver, anunciando que el barco tomaría juerguistas del American Exchange Wharf de Portland a las 10 en punto, en lo que sería un viaje rápido a Vancouver en solo 1 ½ horas. Cuando llegaron al sitio de la iglesia, repitieron el 122º Salmo para que todos lo oyeran. El obispo Morris pronunció el discurso de apertura, seguido de una oración apropiada. El obispo luego colocó la caja de piedra angular dentro de la piedra angular. Después de hacer esto, el obispo golpeó la piedra con un martillo tres veces, y así consagró el edificio de la iglesia. Varios otros dieron discursos a la multitud, y el Coro de San Lucas cantó el himno "Gloria en Excelsis". MEMORIAS DE ALCANCE No entendí su nombre, esperando volver a verlo, pero no lo hice. Vino a comer y compartimos con él. “RELAY FOR LIFE” LUMINARIA BOLSAS Como parte de Relay for Life de la Sociedad Americana del Cáncer en julio, puede decorar y dedicar una Bolsa de Luminaria a alguien que lucha contra el cáncer o para aquellos que han perdido la pelea. Durante la ceremonia de la tarde, estas bolsas se colocarán en un círculo gigante y se encenderán, una ceremonia realmente hermosa. MATERIALES ESCOLARES Una vez más, este año tendremos una campaña de materiales escolar es para ayudar a las familias que necesitan ayuda en nuestra parroquia y en las escuelas de nuestro vecindario. El año pasado suministramos 45 estudiantes con mochilas y útiles escolares. Todos apreciaron la generosidad de la Comunidad SL2. A partir del domingo, 15 de julio, habrá una lista de suministros en el Boletín del domingo. Comenzaremos a recolectar donaciones de útiles escolares el siguiente domingo. Si prefiere no comprar, las donaciones monetarias son bienvenidas y apreciadas. Los cheques deben tener "Suministros escolares de alcance" en la línea de memo. Este año el primer día de clases en el Distrito Evergreen es el 28 de agosto y en el Distrito de Vancouver es el 29 de agosto. SENIOR WARDEN REPORT

about the future of SL2.

What a day it was at St. Luke’s ~ San Lucas on June 17! As a congregation, we came together to prepare for Presiding Bishop Michael Curry’s visit, and it was a huge success. As your Senior Warden, I am so proud to have you as my parish family and I am so proud of how members from all three services and from all age groups came together to contribute to this wonderful day. There are far too many people to thank by name and there are far too many ways in which people helped to even name each task. But I will try. Thank you to everyone who baked for the reception. Thank you to everyone who worked in the gardens on the church grounds. Thank you to everyone who set up chairs. Thank you to everyone who washed pews. Thank you to everyone who painted the parking lot. Thank you to everyone who shuttled people to and from VSAA. Thank you to everyone who sat in a different pew to make our church a welcoming place for visitors. And I could go on and on.

At our June meeting, the Vestry made the decision to further invest in our children and families by approving to create a full-time hourly position of Youth and Families Coordinator. The vision for this new position is to provide initiative and leadership to our parish ministry leaders, with emphasis on children and youth, new families and the additional work load of office staff and the Rector. Ministry programs would include things such as high school youth group, junior high youth group, children’s Sunday School, and Kids’ Night Out to coincide with Friday Night Live, with emphasis on incorporating children and youth from both the 1 pm and 10 am services. The Personnel Committee will be creating the job posting for this position and screening candidates. Please share the word with people you may know who may be interested in position. I look forward to providing updates in future Messenger articles.

In addition to having the great privilege of meeting Presiding Bishop Curry on June 17, I also had the great fortune of talking with visitors from other congregations in Southwest Washington. They were so complimentary of our parish, and they commented on how welcoming it felt to be in our church. I am tremendously proud of the welcome that SL2 provides on a daily and weekly basis, through our Outreach programs and our regular worship services. These comments from visitors were one of the highlights of my day, proving to me that we are truly doing the work we are setting out to do. Another one of the highlights of my day was snapping this photo during the 10 am service. This photo shows some of our youngest parishioners listening to Presiding Bishop Curry’s message on Love from the Parish Hall. Spending time with the children in the Nursery that morning and watching and hearing about the children and families who helped out on the two Saturdays leading up to the Presiding Bishop visit, has me very energized

JUNIOR WARDEN REPORT The Presiding Bishop’s visit was a huge success, no glitches, beautiful weather, a warm welcome and an inspiring sermon. Jamie and I got our selfie as did many of you. Sometimes you meet someone and immediately like them and Bishop Curry was one of those people. During a brief tour to our women’s shelter he met one of our women who immediately began fumbling with the many things she was carrying so she could have a hand free to shake his. He reached out and took her coffee cup, shook her newly available hand as they both said what an honor it was to meet one another. He finished by handing her cup back, smiled and said, “Would you like some coffee?” He certainly practices what he preaches: Love. I want to thank everyone that pitched in to make our facility look its best. In particular I want to thank Dan Rogge for helping coordinate the cleanup crews, Russ Roseberry for coordinating the canopy and all the audio/video equipment, Bob Hiltz for leading the outdoor painting, Stu Hennessey for coming in and clean-

ing all the carpets and Melanie Kenoyer for feeding everyone. There are many others too numerous to mention. Thanks, Thanks, Thanks. We have not quite reached our goal of fundraising for new drinking fountains, but are in the process of getting quotes for the two we plan to replace. Thanks to everyone that contributed. We should have the new units installed in the next few months. Fr. Jaime and I met with the mayor and the engineering manager for surface water management to understand the city’s plan to improve the drainage on 27th St. that caused our flood last October. We also wanted to be sure they know the urgency this was to us and the WHAT shelter. We’re assured their plan will be executed in October or November of this year. It will include new drains on both sides of the street and a drywell somewhere in between. We will work closely with the city to minimize the interruption in access to our parking lot that this construction will cause. John Mathieu

on a design we felt would best fit the space. Jamie painted the mounting board as I measured the layout to be sure it was symmetrical. I am an engineer, after all. My first goal was to do no harm to the pipes and we accomplished this. Each pipe is held in place by a loop of copper wire at the bottom and a clip at the top. As I looped the wire through pre-drilled holes, Jamie crouched below the mounting board and tied them off one-by-one, sixty-six times leaving each pipe undamaged and able to be returned to the organ if needed. If you look closely you can see the square head nails used to build the wooden pipes as well as the note each played, A, A#, B, C, C#, etc. Jamie, Fr. Jaime, Russ and I hoisted the display into place the Wednesday morning before Bishop Curry visited. I am pleased with how it turned out and feel it emphasizes our love of music as an important part of our worship. (See photos on page 10 ) John Mathieu, Jr Warden

VESTRY SUMMARY – June 2018 NARTHEX ORGAN PIPE DISPLAY Last spring Jamie and I took a Friday morning walk, like we often do, in the Sellwood district of Portland. Along our route we came across Old Portland Hardware and Architectural on SE Tacoma, an “eclectic emporium” of antique hardware and “funky finds”. We couldn’t resist browsing. One display they had was a set of old wooden organ pipes organized and mounted on the wall. This became an inspiration to me. I knew where there were some used organ pipes (in our bell tower) that needed to be protected and preserved. I also knew of a blank wall (our expanded narthex) that was begging to have something displayed. Jamie and I gathered up the sixty-six pipes that had been removed to make space for the new organ trumpet stop recently installed. These pipes were original to our 1890 Adams Organ manufactured in Providence, RI for a Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Central Falls, RI. Incidentally, my father was born in Central Falls and this was his childhood church in the French speaking community there, making this project dearer to me. We came up with a few mounting arrangements, solicited a few opinions and decided

SHELTER HOURS: The WHAT shelter runs from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. As soon as SHARE finds extra staffing, it will open at 2:00 p.m. There is no cost to us for the extended hours. RECTOR'S ABSENCE I tried to delegate someone to have my surgery for me, but it didn't work. I will be going in for prostate surgery on July 3, and be "useless" for three weeks. I don't want to worry you too much: My dad and his dad both had prostate cancer. My dad is a 25 year survivor of his surgery, and is turning 89 this year. CHURCH OFFICE TRANSITION Hopefully, you all read about our new Parish Administrator, Astrid Caruso. She will begin working in the office on July 3rd. Training will be going on while working to keep normal functions running smoothly, especially during Fr. Jaime’s absence. If things seem busy or chaotic in the office, this is why. YOUTH & FAMILIES COORDINATOR SL2 is looking for a full-time lay minister specializing in youth and children’s ministries. This is a new, startup, entrepreneurial, multicultural ministry. Certification in youth or childhood ministries, a BA or BS in youth or childhood formation, or demonstrable experience with youth or children is required. English is a must, Spanish is helpful for communicating with the parents. • Work with Rector to start up High School youth group consisting of second and third generation Latino immigrants funneled in through our Quinces. Combine membership with youth from the English service. • Work with Rector to start Junior High youth group consisting of second generation Latino immigrants funneled in through our First Communion classes. Combine membership with youth from the English service. • Work with Rector to start Children’s Sunday School:

CALL FOR PHOTOS We all had a fantastic experience with the visit of Presiding Bishop Michael Curry on June 17th. For historical purposes we would like to collect copies of any pictures you might have of the preparation ahead of the visit, as well as during the visit, and if possible after the visit. We will put these into a scrapbook which we can all view, and then store in the Archives Vault.

It would greatly help us if you would please separate donated copies of your prints into three groups: (1) BEFORE, (2) DURING, including the service and the receptions afterwards, and (3) AFTER, including cleanup, making use of leftovers, etc. Put each group in a separate envelope, marking the Group and giving your name and phone number. Deliver to the Church Office for the Archivist. If you have your pictures, or videos, in digital format, please separate them within the DVD through the use of folders, one for each group. It would also be helpful, for future reference, if you can name persons seen in the photos. For paper photos, write names on the back edge of the photo using a pencil, which will last longer over time. For digital photos, number each photo in the photo’s file name, and create a document listing names by photo number. AN EXCURSION IN 1871 The date is August 31, 1871. The Missionary Diocese of Oregon and Washington is meeting in Portland. Our rector at St. Luke’s, Rev. Nicholson, has been raising money for a new church building, and the time had arrived to lay the building’s cornerstone. Rev. Nicholson, and other leaders at St. Luke’s realized that they had an opportunity with the annual convention of the diocese going on at this time. So they arranged to have an excursion for the convention goers. The paddlewheel ship, The Vancouver, was chartered. Edding’s Hall (owned by one of our church leaders) was reserved and set up for a big banquet. Advertisements were published in Portland and Vancouver, announcing that the ship would take revelers from Portland’s American Exchange Wharf at 10 o’clock, on what would be a speedy trip to Vancouver in only 1 ½ hours. Edding’s Hall would be nearby in Vancouver, as would the spot where the cornerstone would be laid. A big feast was laid out for everyone, with meats, cheeses, breads, and of course beer. Everyone had to finish by 1 PM, as there would be a procession to the church site from the Hall. The crowd went first, to prepare for the ceremonies. Then a smaller procession was led by Bishop Morris, other area religious leaders, our Vestry, and local political dignitaries. As they arrived at the church site, they repeated the 122nd Psalm for all to hear. Bishop Morris delivered the opening address, followed by an appropriate prayer. The Bishop then placed the cornerstone box within the cornerstone. After doing this, the Bishop struck the stone with a hammer three times, and so consecrated the church building. Various others delivered addresses to the crowd, and the St. Luke’s Choir sung the anthem “Gloria in Excelsis”. Those that had come across from Portland had to leave to board their ship by 2 PM. After more celebrating aboard the ship, they arrived in good cheer back at Portland. Those remaining in Vancouver supposedly returned to Edding’s Hall. That cornerstone survived the fire in 1932, and is now embedded in the Narthex wall. While it takes less time to go from Portland to Vancouver, it is not as much fun as it was in 1871. 2018 VBS – BABYLON: DANIEL’S COURAGE IN CAPTIVITY

October 4-5 I am going to the Bishop’s Leadership Conference to learn more about preparing for the changing size of our Parish. When I register the Parish, 4 people are allowed to go: So I need 3 more of you to join me. Additional people can go for 15/ each.

This year in Vacation Bible School campers will travel back to ancient Babylon and experience the story of Daniel and the Lions in an interactive and fun setting. Campers will get to walk with Daniel through his story of bravery in the face of adversity and talk about how God is always with us through the best and worst of times. Games, crafts and music will make everyday fun-filled and empowerment focused for all attendees! Ages 4-10 and the dates are Tuesday – Saturday, July 10-14. Registration forms are available in the Narthex and on the St. Luke’s ~ San Lucas website. We are still looking for volunteers to help with crafts, food, group activities and music, please let me know if you are interested and come to our meetings in the Children’s Chapel prior Sundays after the 10 AM service. “GODLY PLAY” TRAINING OFFERED IN VANCOUVER! St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Vancouver is offering “Godly Play” training starting in the evening on Friday, August 10 from 5-9 PM and all day Saturday, August 11, 8:30 AM - 4 PM. THE W.H.A.T. SHELTER STORY On Sunday, June 10th, Cassie Sorensen, the Program Director for Share’s Women in Housing and Transition shelter (W. H. A. T.), provided a sermon at the 8AM and 10AM services. She told us about the many positive statistics and accomplishments of this shelter, that resides in our basement. Then she shared some inspiring stories about a few of the women who have benefited from this program. NOTES FROM THE MUSIC ROOM Presiding Bishop Michael Curry’s visit with us on June 17th was a wonderful and worshipful experience. It also marked the end of our choir and bell “season,” offering our volunteer parish musicians an opportunity to rest and relax a bit before the program starts again in the Fall. Please take a moment to pat a singer or ringer on the back for a job well-done over the past year. A special thank-you goes out to everyone who helped with the music for the Bishop. St. Luke’s ~ San Lucas Episcopal Church will host the third annual TGIF Music Festival Vancouver again this summer. On four Fridays in July at 6 PM, there will be four free concerts of music. Note that the series has moved to July from August to avoid the late summer heat. •

Pianist Christopher Schindler will begin the series on Friday evening, July 6th with a solo recital that will include Schubert’s grand C minor Sonata and Liszt’s virtuosic Mephisto Waltz.

Guitarist Jon Yerby from Seattle will continue the series with a solo classical guitar program on Friday evening, July 13th.

On the following Friday night, July 20th Vancouver Symphony principal oboist Alan Juza will bring his quintet Chameleon Winds for a program of music for oboe, clarinet, flute, bassoon, and French horn.

Pianists Maria Garcia and Momoko Muramatsu, known as the XX Digitus Duo, return on Friday, July 27th to finish the series with a program of music for one piano, four-hands.

At the 10 AM service, the liturgy will change from the first Sunday in August until the Last Sunday in Pentecost. We will use the EOW Eucharistic Prayer I. We will use sung responses to the Prayers of the People and use prayers we have composed here. The Creed will be a new piece bridging modern scientific thought and our great tradition of faith.

MINISTRY LEADERSHIP CHANGE LECTORS AND CHALICE BEARERS This quarter will be a transition on leadership of the Lectors and Chalice Bearers ministry. Kathy Gallaher and Katherine Wolf have agreed to team up to lead this ministry group, with Kathy G. focusing on training and development and Katherine W. focusing on scheduling. (at least to get started) I will still be around and serving as a Chalice Bearer. I

A free-will offering will be gladly accepted. A list of local restaurants, pubs, and wine bars offering discounts to concert-goers will be available to help you celebrate the end of another work week.

DAYTIME OUTREACH Thank you to so many of you who have been so generous with donations of clothes. Going through your closets and some even buying clothes. Currently, we have plenty of clothes for women. Our greatest need if for men’s clothes as most of our guests are men. Now that it is summer, we are looking for shorts, tank tops, T-shirts, jeans, tennis shoes, hats and sandals. The men we serve are sizes 32-38 in pants and S-XL in shirts. Please spread the word in your social circles that we need men’s clothes. Remember that this is the season for Garage Sales. Often these are great opportunities to pick up some clothes at low prices. Also let the sellers know that your purchases are for a church outreach ministry. I have been given bags of clothes in lieu of purchasing a few things. Remember we do have donations forms that you can take with you, sign and leave with the seller. You can find these in the Narthex. Thrift Stores usually have Senior Days or days they offer special savings. Shop on those days and you can purchase more for less! People have told me you can get several T-Shirts for a dollar or two. Ask people in your exercise class, Bible study group and other groups in which you are a member. You might even ask at your dental office if you can put up a sign or leave a donation box. My dentist and my veterinarian have given many bags of clothes. My neighbor has donated clothing gathered at her job and exercise class. ANOTHER OUTREACH VISITOR I didn't catch his name, expecting to see him again, but I didn't. He came in for food, and we shared with him. I saw that his shoes were coming apart, uppers separated from soles, and hinted that we might have something for him to trade. He declined, saying all he need-

ed was tape to hold the pieces together. We provided. He left and sat beneath the church entrance canopy to eat his lunch. Meanwhile, I found shoes that might've fit him, and brought them to him. He declined, saying, "Thanks, but someone needs those more than I do." (!!!) I told him that nobody needs them more than he does. He again declined. Someone else needed them more than he did? Wow! NEW DRINKING FOUNTAINS Hooray! The funding for the drinking fountains with bottle fillers is doing well due to the generosity of many in the congregation. With a few more donations we can reach the $3,000 goal. With the new fountains people will be able to not only get a drink of good water, they will be able to refill water bottles and not rely on non-refillable plastic bottled water. RELAY FOR LIFE LUMINARIA BAGS As part of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in July, you can decorate and dedicate a Luminaria Bag to someone who is fighting cancer or to those who have lost the fight. During their evening ceremony these bags will be place is a giant circle and lighted. A really beautiful ceremony. Stop by Joan Wilson’s table on Sundays June 24, July 1 & 8, during the Coffee Hour in the Parish Hall. She will have all the supplies you need. Donations to American Cancer Society will also be accepted but are free will. Stop by and say Hello to Joan and decorate a Luminaria Bag to honor someone.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES Once again, this year we will be having a School Supply drive to assist families in need of help in our Parish and in our neighborhood schools. Last year we supplied 45 students with backpacks and school supplies. They all appreciated the generosity of the SL2 Community. Starting Sunday, July 15th, there will be a list of supplies in the Sunday Bulletin. We will be begin collecting donations of school supplies the following Sunday. If you prefer not to shop, monetary donations are welcomed and appreciated. Checks should have “Outreach School Supplies” on the memo line. This year the first day of school in Evergreen District is August 28th and in Vancouver District it is August 29th. So, all donations need to be in by Sunday, August 19th to allow us time to organize donations and make up backpacks. The Blessing of the Backpacks will be on Sunday, August 26 at the 10AM and 1PM services. ALS WALK – SEPTEMBER 22, 2018 This is our 10th year in the WALK TO DEFEAT ALS. As always, we will be walking in loving memory of Father Eric Werts. This 5K walk helps us raise funds for research, support of families, awareness and most importantly finding a CURE. This is a horrible disease that strikes someone every 90 minutes and every 90 minutes someone loses their battle with ALS. The average life span is 2 – 5 years after diagnosis. Father Eric survived 3 years, 2 month’s and 10 days. We must continue to put ALS in the forefront in people’s minds. The ALS Association along with the community of St Luke’s – San Lucas were so good to us and helped make Eric’s journey so much easier.
