September 2011 FUND RAISER FOR JOSIE AND HER FAMILY AFTER THEIR HOUSE FIRE Sunday, September 18, immediately after the morning service.

This will be a spaghetti dinner with all the trimmings including a nice glass of wine. There will be no charge for this elegant pasta feast but we ask for a generous free will offering. Baskets will be placed on the tables to receive your offering. Josie and Ozzie and the children have been staying with her sister and family since the fire. This will probably continue for about a year until the house can be rebuilt. Their insurance told them that they were covered for rebuilding the house but for nothing else. That means that contents and living costs come from their own pocket. That is what we want to help with. At this time, they need cash. Things like furniture and big items have no place to be stored. Please help! Kathy Martin will have the particulars up for you all to donate items such as salads, munchies and desserts. Chef Andre is donating the spaghetti, sauce and cheese, Mack Roper is donating the wine, Jeanne is in charge of a silent auction and the rest of us will just make it happen. NEW SERVICE HOURS STARTS OCT. 2 On Sunday, August 14, 2011, the Church Councils of both South Miami Lutheran Church and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church met in a joint Council Meeting. The purpose of that meeting was to discuss further a survey that had been taken in each congregation regarding the change of the worship service times. This survey asked if you all would attend church if the time was moved at South Miami to 9:00 am and at St. Mark’s if the time was moved to 11:00 am. The survey was conducted over a period of a few Sundays with almost the same results. Both congregations had over a 70% approval of changing the time of worship. What this would do is allow one pastor to conduct both services in the same morning and move between churches with a minimum of hassle and provide some time for fellowship and conversation both before and after the service. Both Councils agreed that this was important to the members and visitors. After everyone had a chance to add to the conversation/discussion, it was voted by each Church Council separately to adopt these changes: This is being done on a trial basis from October through January. At that time, we will decide whether to make it permanent or hit the reset button. Starting Sunday Oct. 2, 2011 • St. Mark’s German Service will worship on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. • South Miami Lutheran Church will worship on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. • St. Mark’s Lutheran Church will worship on Sunday mornings at 11 a.m. Sunday School (for all ages) will be at 11:15-11:45 a.m. • St. Mark’s Choir Practice will be held prior to the 11 a.m. service unless the choir in conjunction with the organist & choir director decides otherwise.

Ihr Haus ist vor einigen Wochen abgebrannt. Neben dem Ersatz des Hauses durch die Versicherung muss die Familie Largacha alles neu kaufen, von Kleidung bis Möbel und Gerätschaften. Oktober findet JEDEN SONNTAG UM 09:00 Uhr EIN DEUTSCHER GOTTESDIENST STATT, IMMER MIT KINDERGOTTESDIENST und anschließender Social Hour bei Kaffee und Gebäck! AnGedacht Wem viel gegeben ist, bei dem wird man viel suchen; und wem viel anvertraut ist, von dem wird man umso mehr fordern. (Lukas 12,48) Was ist mir gegeben? Was ist mir anvertraut? Es geht um all das, was Gott mir gegeben hat. Von den Gaben seines Geistes hat er mir Glaube, Hoffnung und Liebe anvertraut. Auch mit anderen Gaben hat er mich ausgestattet, mit der Gabe, aufmerksam und einfühlsam anderen zu begegnen, oder mit der Gabe, verlässlich und treu auch schwierige Wegstrecken durchzuhalten. Spannend ist es, die Früchte des Geistes Gottes bei Paulus zu studieren und in unsere Situation hinein zu übertragen. Auch anderes hat Gott mir anvertraut: Das Wertvollste sind Menschen, für die ich Verantwortung trage oder für die ich tätig bin. In diesem großen Geschehen sind wir Gottes Ökonomen, seine Verwalter, seine Betriebswirte. In der Gemeinde, in der ich tätig bin, arbeiten viele Verwalter Gottes miteinander. Ob sie diese überraschende Perspektive verstehen? Alle haben Teil an der Verantwortung für die Menschen, denen sie begegnen oder für die sie letztlich arbeiten. Ist unser Umgang mit ihnen von Liebe, Aufmerksamkeit und Barmherzigkeit geprägt? Sorgen wir recht und angemessen für sie? Gottes Ökonomen, seine Verwalter sind wir, weil er uns Gaben anvertraut hat und Menschen, denen wir mit unseren unterschiedlichen Gaben dienen. Als gute Verwalter haben wir das Wohl der uns anvertrauten Menschen besonders im Blick. Sie sind der wichtigste Besitz unseres Herrn. So fragt unser Wochenspruch bei uns an: Wie gehe ich mit den mir anvertrauten Menschen um? Bin ich für die da, für die ich tätig und mit Gaben ausgestattet bin? Oder sorge ich vornehmlich für mich und lasse schlecht versorgt, die mir anvertraut sind? Diese Frage geht heute in erster Linie an uns in Kirche und Diakonie. Erst wenn wir in unserem Bereich treue Verwalterinnen und Verwalter sind, können wir auch andere an ihre Verantwortung für die Gesellschaft im Großen erinnern, meint Ihr Pfr. Frank Kopania
