As we get ready for the farewell Sunday for Pr. Kopania we are asking everyone to help, if you can, with the luncheon that day. In order to make it easy to decide what to bring we are asking that if you last begins with A through L bring either a salad or a side dish to share. If your last name begins with M through Z please bring a dessert. Chef Andre will be making German potato salad and an apple strudel so you don’t have to make that. The meat dishes will be German veal loaf and a baked ham. Those will be provided. This will all be on Sunday, September 1, 10 am, at South Miami Lutheran Church, 7190 Sunset Drive. There will be NO service at St. Mark’s that day. If there is a specific way that you would like to help please see Pr. Perry. A joint choir will also sing that morning. Please plan to come and enjoy the beautiful morning as we say Good-bye and thank you to Pr. Kopania. Pr. Perry

Die Verabschiedung von Pfarrer Kopania findet im Gottesdienst am 01. September 2013 um 10:00 Uhr in der South Miami Lutheran Church statt. Im Anschluss sind alle herzlich zur Abschiedsfeier mit Mittagessen eingeladen.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR AUGUST CELEBRANTS

AnGedacht Christus spricht: Kommt her zu mir, alle, die ihr mühselig und beladen seid; ich will euch erquicken. (Matthäus 11,28) Liebe Leser, was für eine Einladung! Sie gilt den Mühseligen und Beladenen, all denen, die Lasten tragen in ihrem Leben. Krankheiten können das sein. Sie können unseren Körper und unsere Seele aus heiterem Himmel treffen, wie ein Sommergewitter. Aber auch Angst und Sorgen, Vorwürfe und Versagen belasten uns. Gut, wenn dann jemand an unserer Seite ist. „Kommt her zu mir alle, die ihr mühselig und beladen seid!“ Das ist eine Einladung, bei der ich mich unterstellen kann, Schutz suchen kann, wenn die Gewitter des Lebens mit Blitz und Donner auf mich einprasseln. Was für eine Zusage! „Ich will euch erquicken.“ „Erquickung“ – das ist ein Schluck Wasser nach einer mühevollen Wanderung an einem heißen Tag. Das ist das tiefe Atemholen, wenn der Gipfel erreicht ist. Das ist ein Ort, der mir Schutz gibt, um Atem zu holen, Kraft zu tanken für das nächste Stück Weg durch das Wetter. Wir brauchen solche Schutzorte, an denen wir Ruhe finden, wo wir Kraft tanken können, wo die Hoffnung neu wachsen kann, wo wir Nähe spüren, die neuen Mut schenkt, um weiterzugehen. Nicht alle Tage Sonnenschein, sondern Entlastung. Es gibt Lasten, die kann ich abschütteln. Gott sei Dank! Aber es gibt auch Lasten, die werde ich nicht los. Sie gehören zu mir. Deshalb fährt Jesus fort: „Nehmt auf euch mein Joch, und lernt von mir. Denn mein Joch ist sanft.“ Ein Joch dient dazu, Lasten, die getragen werden müssen, leichter tragen zu können. Wenn uns Jesus sein Joch anbietet, dann bietet er uns an, mitzutragen an unseren Lasten, Ängsten und Sorgen; mitzutragen an dem, was manchmal unvermeidbar ist. Was für ein Gott! Einer, der dir tragen hilft an der Last und Fracht deines Lebens; der an deiner Seite geht und dich nicht allein lässt mit deinen Belastungen; der dich erquickt, damit du deinen Weg weitergehen kannst,

I have received Jeanne Batridge’s resignation as our Synodical Deacon. She wrote: “it is to you, the Pastor of St. Mark's and to the council and congregation of St. Mark's that I resign as a synod deacon.” This is just a part of her longer email to me. Your Church Council has received this resignation with regret. I did notify the Office of the Bishop as is proper. In his response to me he shared, “She has been one of our longest serving synodical deacons, and so her decision to lay her stole aside is a bit of a surprise.” I believe that this also a bit of a surprise for all of us too. Please keep Jeanne in your prayers. She has served us well for over a decade and for that we give thanks. She is and will be missed. We pray God’s blessings on her as she moves to a new future.
