Sergio Says… Celebrities have the same legal problems as

everyone else… but they may handle them better! You may have seen many reports about the divorce of one of America’s most famous Hollywood couples ... and you may have noticed they have the same legal problems as the rest of us. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have received a lot of media attention, which has reported issues in their divorce that range from adultery, to “child abuse” to custody of their children.

However, there is one important difference between “celebrity” versus noncelebrity divorces: celebrities often secure attorney representation sooner than their non-celebrity counterparts. They know that the sooner people consult an attorney about a legal problem, the better their chances for a better outcome. For example, Pitt reportedly had a widely-publicized affair, prompting Angelina to get a divorce. She immediately consulted an attorney, who filed the proper paperwork requesting everything Jolie wanted, including custody of their six children. Then Jolie put Pitt on the defensive by accusing him of “being abusive” to one of the children, which launched an extensive investigation by authorities. Pitt immediately hired an attorney to defend against the divorce as well as the “abuse” allegations. The attorneys for both parties then worked together to control the case with a temporary custody agreement that was in the best interests of the children. Now imagine the same situation without their hiring attorneys as soon as they did. Jolie would probably not know how to file a proper divorce and may have risked losing the children as well as her right to marital assets and financial support. If Pitt had not hired an attorney as soon as he did, he may have been facing criminal charges. Worse yet, a judge who doesn’t know the family, would have made important decisions about the children and the family's finances, which could have had disastrous results for everybody.
