Jackson Hole

SUNDAY, JULY 5 SIXTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST 10:00 A.M. HOLY EUCHARIST

AFTER ST. JOHN’S MISSION TRIP TO CUBA

Since the beginning of our companionship in 2012, a small house in Favorito, Cuba, has been transformed into a beautiful chapel and community center. Forty-three members of the St. John’s community have traveled to Cuba in the last three years to solidify relationships and glorify God, overcoming cultural and language barriers. We welcome Bishop Griselda this morning and thank her for allowing us to participate in the transformation of the Episcopal Church in Cuba.

BEFORE

WELCOME TO ST. JOHN’S JACKSON HOLE!

We are delighted you have come to worship with us today. You are welcome here and invited to join us at God’s table in receiving communion and to share in our education, fellowship, and service ministries. We seek to meet you, know you, and bring you more deeply into our life and ministry as a diverse and dynamic faith community. If you are visiting for the first time, please help us get to know you by introducing yourself and by filling out a Welcome Card found in your pew rack. Please place the card in the offering plate, hand it to an usher or a member of the clergy. We are glad you are here and want to do everything we can to help you make the most of St. John’s Episcopal Church and its resources for your spiritual journey. If you are looking for a church home, there is a place for you here! We would be honored to have a conversation with you about that possibility.

CHILDREN AT ST. JOHN’S

Children are invited to fully participate in the music, prayer, and readings of worship. Children’s Chapel is offered most Sundays during the Gospel and Sermon. We offer infant and toddler care on Sundays from 9:45 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in the nursery to the right upon entering the main doors, down the hall.

2 Samuel 5:1-5,9-10 All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron, and said, “Look, we are your bone and flesh. For some time, while Saul was king over us, it was you who led out Israel and brought it in. The Lord said to you: It is you who shall be shepherd of my people Israel, you who shall be ruler over Israel.” So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron; and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel. David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years. At Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months; and at Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years. David occupied the stronghold, and named it the city of David. David built the city all around from the Millo inward. And David became greater and greater, for the Lord, the God of hosts, was with him. Reader The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God. Out of the depths have I called to you, O LORD; LORD, hear my voice; * let your ears consider well the voice of my supplication. If you, LORD, were to note what is done amiss, * O Lord, who could stand? For there is forgiveness with you; * therefore you shall be feared. I wait for the LORD; my soul waits for him; * in his word is my hope. My soul waits for the LORD, more than watchmen for the morning, * more than watchmen for the morning. O Israel, wait for the LORD, * for with the LORD there is mercy; With him there is plenteous redemption, * and he shall redeem Israel from all their sins.

Lector Demos gracias a Dios. Estén atentos tus oídos a mi voz suplicante.

2 Corinthians 8:7-15 Now as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in utmost eagerness, and in our love for you—so we want you to excel also in this generous undertaking. I do not say this as a command, but I am testing the genuineness of your love against the earnestness of others. For you know the generous act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich. And in this matter I am giving my advice: it is appropriate for you who began last year not only to do something but even to desire to do something—now finish doing it, so that your eagerness may be matched by completing it according to your means. For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has—not according to what one does not have. I do not mean that there should be relief for others and pressure on you, but it is a question of a fair balance between your present abundance and their need, so that their abundance may be for your need, in order that there may be a fair balance. As it is written, “The one who had much did not have too much, and the one who had little did not have too little.” Reader The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. People GRADUAL HYMN

THE HOLY GOSPEL Mark 6:1-13 Deacon The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark. Glory to you Lord Christ. People He left that place and came to his home town, and his disciples followed him. On the sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded. They said, ‘Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands! Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?’ And they took offence at him. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Prophets are not without honour, except in their home town, and among their own kin, and in their own house.’ And he could do no deed of power there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and cured them. And he was amazed at their unbelief. Then he went about among the villages teaching. He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics. He said to them, ‘Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. If any place will not welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.’ So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent. They cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them. Deacon The Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ. People Praise to you, Lord Christ.

Reader Demos gracias a Dios. People HIMNO DE LA SANTA EVANGELIO

SANTA EVANGELIO Marcos 6:1-13 Diacono Santo Evangelio de Jesucristo, según Marcos. ¡Gloria a ti, Cristo Señor!

THE SERMON Rvdma. Maria Griselda Delgado del Carpio, Bishop of Cuba A moment of silence will be observed for reflection after the sermon. THE NICENE CREED The People stand saying together.

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Eucharistic Prayer C, The Book of Common Prayer, page 369

From the primal elements you brought forth the human race, and blessed us with memory, reason, and skill. You made us the rulers of creation. But we turned against you, and betrayed your trust; and we turned against one another. Have mercy, Lord, for we are sinners in your sight. Again and again, you called us to return. Through prophets and sages you revealed your righteous Law. And in the fullness of time you sent your only Son, born of a woman, to fulfill your Law, to open for us the way of freedom and peace. By his blood, he reconciled us. By his wounds, we are healed. And therefore we praise you, joining with the heavenly chorus, with prophets, apostles, and martyrs, and with all those in every generation who have looked to you in hope, to proclaim with them your glory, in their unending hymn:

Do this for the remembrance of me.” After supper, he took the cup of wine, gave thanks, and said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
