*CALL TO WORSHIP (those who are able please stand) *LLAMAMIENTO A LA ADORACION The season of Lent sets us on a journey. The journey begins in the wilderness. We follow the way of Jesus, Who faced trials, trouble, temptation, and testing. Like Jesus, we are not alone. The Holy Spirit is with us. God’s Word is on our lips. Our call is to trust in God alone, To do God’s will in all things. For God leads us not only into the wilderness, But also through the wilderness. *HYMN: #166 "Lord, Who Throughout These Forty Days" CALL TO CONFESSION God is faithful, leading us into freedom, but we are conditioned to the slavery of sin. Comfortable with the way things are, we lose sight of the way God intends them to be. We bring our confession before the One who is more powerful than Pharaoh in Egypt, mightier than the devil in the wilderness. PRAYER OF CONFESSION O God, our refuge and fortress, forgive us when we fail to trust in you. We fall into temptation; we are swayed by false words; we speak false words of our own. We choose our ease and comfort over your demanding claims upon us and upon the world. In turning from you, we settle for less than the abundant generosity you intend. Forgive us , we pray. Do not let us be put to shame, O God. Hear us as we call to you and show us your salvation. In Christ’s name we pray. SILENT CONFESSION Silence is kept for personal confession.

ASSURANCE OF GOD’S LOVE AND MERCY Scripture declares, the Lord is generous to all who call on God’s name. Friends, believe the good news: God does not turn away from us, but desires to bring us into the glorious freedom offered in Jesus Christ. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Thanks be to God for this good news! RESPONSE *HYMN #435, stanza one There's a wideness in God's mercy, Like the wideness of the sea; There's a kindness in God's justice, Which is more than liberty. There is no place where earth's sorrows, Are more felt than up in heaven; There is no place where earth's failings, Have such kindly judgment given. *PASSING OF THE PEACE *COMPARTIENDO LA PAZ Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts. To this peace we were called as members of a single body. The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you. Let us share the peace of Christ with those around us.

GOSPEL READING Luke 4:1-13 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing at all during those days, and when they were over, he was famished. The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become a loaf of bread.” Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘One does not live by bread alone.’” Then the devil led him up and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And the devil said to him, “To you I will give their glory and all this authority; for it has been given over to me, and I give it to anyone I please. If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours.” Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.’” Then the devil took him to Jerusalem, and placed him on the pinnacle of the temple, saying to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, for it is written, ‘He will command his angels concerning you, to protect you,’ And ‘On their hands they will bear you up, so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.’” Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” When the devil had finished every test, he departed from him until an opportune time. RESPONSE This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

We Hear God’s Word PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION Bring your word near to us, O God. May it rest not only on our lips, but also reside in our hearts. By the power of your Holy Spirit, help us to respond to your word with our whole lives until you become our dwelling place; through Jesus Christ, we pray.

COMMUNION MEDITATION "Wilderness Journey"

TIME FOR SILENT PRAYER AND REFLECTION Please let the bell tone help in your meditation and reflection. This is an ancient Christian monastic and Eastern meditation practice aid.

EPISTLE READING Romans 10:8b-13 But what does it say? “The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. The scripture says, “No one who believes in him will be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on him. For, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

HYMN #783 “When We Are Tested”

RESPONSE This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

JOYS AND CONCERNS We pray to the Lord…Lord, hear our prayer. A TIME FOR GENEROSITY Israel came out of the wilderness and into a land flowing with milk and honey. There they were finally to offer to God baskets full, in joyful celebration. We, too, bring the first fruits of all that God has so generously given us, with joy and thanksgiving.

*DOXOLOGY #607 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise Christ, all people here below; praise Holy Spirit evermore; We praise you God, whom we adore. Amen.

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION Gracious and generous God, we are amazed by the good gifts you bestow in abundance. Thank you for food that sustains us on our journey. Thank you for the company of saints to whom we are joined. Thank you for giving us your work to do on earth. We offer back to you a portion of all that we have received, setting down our baskets in celebration of your greatest gift, Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray. HOLY COMMUNION (Insert) Communion Hymns “Eat This Bread” (#527) Repeat several times Eat this bread; drink this cup; come to me and never be hungry. Eat this bread; drink this cup; trust in me and you will not thirst. “Jesus, Remember Me” (#227) Repeat several times Jesus, remember me, when you come into your kingdom. “Seek Ye Firstl” (#175 v. 1, 3) Seek ye first the kingdom of God and its righteousness, And all these things shall be added unto you. Allelu, alleluia! You shall not live by bread alone, but by every word That proceeds from the mouth of God. Allelu, alleluia! PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION In gratitude, in deep gratitude for this moment, this meal, these people, we give yourselves to you. Take us out to live as changed people because we have shared the Living Bread and cannot remain the same. Ask much of us, expect much from us, enable much by us, encourage many through us. So, Lord, may we live to your glory, ready to follow your call, wherever you lead us. Amen. *HYMN #547 "Go, My Children, With My Blessing” *BENEDICTION *LIGHT OF CHRIST GOES WITH US (We carry the Christ Candle out of the sanctuary as a reminder that God’s love is with us, even as we go out in peace, guided by the Spirit to bring healing and hope to a broken, hurting, and grieving world.) *BENEDICTION RESPONSE “Antiphonal Benediction” -Holly Puett Senior Choir POSTLUDE PARTICIPATING IN THIS MORNING’S WORSHIP SERVICE Pastor The Rev. Pastor Laurie is away on the Urban Immersion Service Retreat in Minneapolis with the youth and adults. She will return to the office on Tuesday. ADULT FORUM TODAY: Today we will be discussing the 5th segment of Painting the Stars - Evolutionary Christianity. On Sunday, March 17, 2019, we will be receiving information from the youth who participated in the Urban Immersion Retreat. REPERTORY CHURCH SCRIPTURE ENCOUNTER: (RCSE) is a relatively new Bible study taking place Tuesday evenings 5:15-6:15. Perfect for working members that want to get to know the Bible better and can’t attend Bible study during the day. We break down the coming Sunday’s scripture and discuss its meaning. It differs from other studies because the verses are brought to life at the end by each person taking a part to read and act out. It really is a great way to personalize and “live” in that moment in history. It is a great place for fellowship and to immerse yourself in the word of God. Please come try it out – we have a lot of fun! INVESTIGATING CHURCH MEMBERSHIP: Class continues today, 10:4512:00 in the Arts and Crafts room, where members will share about the ministries and missions of FPC. HEARING & VISUAL ASSISTANCE Ask an Usher for help: • Switch hearing aid to T-Coil Loop Listeners • Magnifiers are available WHO MAY PARTICIPATE IN THE SACRAMENT OF THE LORD'S SUPPER? The invitation to the Lord’s Supper is extended to all, remembering that access to the Table is not a right conferred upon the worthy, but a privilege given to the undeserving who come in faith, repentance, and love. Even one who doubts or whose trust is wavering may come to the Table in order to be assured of God’s love and grace in Christ Jesus. No one shall be excluded because of race, sex, age, economic status, social class, handicapping condition, difference of culture or language, or any barrier created by human injustice. Coming to the Lord’s Table, the faithful are to seek reconciliation in every instance of conflict or division between them and their neighbors. If you need gluten free bread and juice, please go to the center aisle and receive those elements from Pastor Janet Wolfe. Please raise your hand if elements need to be brought to you in your pew, and a server will bring them to you. Our Mission Statement…"First Presbyterian Church, Marshfield, Wisconsin seeks to welcome all to join us on our journey of faith, denying no one, based upon his or her particular human condition, participation in the life of the church. We want to be a safe place, a sanctuary where people are accepted, included, and cared for as they are. We will be agents of God's transforming power, aligning ourselves with the Holy Spirit as we pray, worship, learn, share fellowship and serve together. By attending to the love of Jesus Christ in our midst, we discover a deepening faith that makes a difference in our lives. As a community based on God's love, we strive to be of service to our neighbors and to the world."

COMMUNION LITURGY — A INVITATION EUCHARISTIC PRAYER The Lord be with you And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to God. Let us give thanks to God our Maker. It is right to give our thanks and praise. For you, Creator God, the valleys laugh and sing and the trees of the field clap their hands. Your earth summons us to break silence and be one with the song of creation. We give you thanks and praise. For you, God of all, the church in its myriad forms and countless languages honors its Savior. We give you thanks and praise. In heaven, beyond our seeing, the angels and saints are caught up in song. And those that we have loved and lost are part of that great company. They call us to be one with the harmony of heaven. We give you thanks and praise. So gladly, we join our voices to those of earth, sea and sky, in the universal hymn of praise which echoes through time and eternity. Holy, Holy, Holy God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest! Because you, gracious God, have been faithful to us, we will be faithful to Jesus. He promised to be with those who met in his name: This we believe. He promised to hear the prayers of faithful people: This we believe. He said that in the communion of bread and wine he would be present to us as we remembered him: This we celebrate.

Invitatión ORACIÓN EUCARÍSTICA El senor este contigo Y tambien contigo. Levanta tus corazones. Los levantamos a Dios. Demos gracias a Dios nuestro Creador.

So, send now your Spirit among us and upon this bread and wine, that we may taste and see your goodness, be embraced by your love, and be engaged in your service.

Entonces, envía ahora tu Espíritu entre nosotros y sobre este pan y vino, para que podamos probar y ver tu bondad, ser abrazado por tu amor, y participa en tu servicio.

Because we are here to meet with Jesus, we join our words to those he taught us, saying: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

WORDS OF INSTITUTION The Lord Jesus, on the night of his arrest, took bread, and after giving thanks to God, broke it and said: "This is my body, which is for you; do this, remembering me." In the same way, Jesus took the cup after supper and said: "This cup is the new covenant sealed in my blood. Whenever you drink it, do this, remembering me."
