Benchmark 1: Target Population The La Joya Early College High School campus identifies, recruits, and enrolls subpopulations of at-risk students (as defined by PEIMS), including but not limited to limited English proficient students or students who have failed a state administered assessment. Students who are at risk, as defined by PEIMS, students who are historically underrepresented in college courses (e.g.), first generation college goers, students of low socioeconomic status, and African American/Hispanic students will have an equal opportunity for enrollment. The ECHS services 411 students: 126 freshmen, 94 sophomores, 104 juniors, and 87 seniors. An equal opportunity performance-blind openaccess lottery system encourages and considers applications from all students regardless of background or academic performance. Enrollment decisions are not based on state assessment scores, discipline history, teacher recommendations, or minimum grade point average. All students who apply are given an opportunity to attend La Joya ECHS, and given guidance and support during their academic career at the ECHS.
