Dear Oberstdorf holidaymaker and winter enthusiast, As the first snowflakes fall in Oberstdorf, it’s time to start thinking about the perfect way to spend your holiday. Would you most enjoy carving the first tracks down a freshly groomed piste or prefer to take a more relaxed approach? If the latter is the case, then a steaming cup of tea or coffee and a delicious slice of cake by an open fire in a rustic hut is surely the perfect choice. Or do you tend to go for more athletic activities? If so, then the cross-country skiing trails from the Nordic World Ski Championships 2005 await you! With a huge range of winter sport activities, there’s something for everyone: skiers and snowboarders can enjoy 128 kilometres of pistes in five different ski resorts, including Fellhorn / Kanzelwand, Germany’s largest cross-border ski resort. Even more fun awaits you on the Nebelhorn with Germany’s longest valley run, measuring an impressive 7.5 kilometres. Families feel particularly at home in Söllereck, a family-friendly
ski resort with a ski carousel and children’s practice area. The ski resorts around Oberstdorf are open from mid-December to the end of April. Modern lifts swiftly transport you to the summits, so you can spend as long as p ossible on the optimally groomed pistes, where snow is guaranteed. If you prefer exploring the great outdoors on foot, there are also plenty of options available to you. How about a snowshoeing taster course or a stunning winter hike? A network of 140 kilometres of groomed hiking trails awaits you, with snowy mountain landscapes, idyllic huts and spectacular natural experiences. Surmount the Burgstall climb at the Ried cross-country skiing arena and feel like a world champion! Spend your holiday following in the footsteps of world-class athletes on the 75 kilometres of cross-country trails, suitable for both classic and freestyle skiing. Incidentally, if you want to see world-class athletes first hand, then
get your tickets for the Four Hills Tournament, the Tour de Ski and the Ladies’ FIS Ski Jumping World Cup. For a little taste of World Championship fever, visit us in February 2017 to enjoy the pre-event for the FIS Ski Flying World Championships 2018. A top location for over 80 years: as the highest ski resort in the Allgäu, the Nebelhorn impresses with its amazing views, outstanding chances of snow, high quality pistes and a 7.5-kilometre valley run with artificial snow. This winter, the Nebelhorn summit is showing off its best side with a new and inviting restaurant. High up above Oberstdorf, you can now enjoy delicious meals accompanied by spectacular views. The NTC park offers even more fun and laughter in the snow with its leisure sports equipment and three-kilometre-long, snow-covered toboggan run. The new summit restaurant as well as the “Gemsnest” panoramic bar and the self-service restaurant at the Höfatsblick station offer plenty to whet skiers’ and winter hikers’ appetites.

Endless skiing fun in two countries – the state-of-the-art Fellhorn / Kanzelwand ski region offers everything a skier’s heart could desire: pistes for every taste with practically guaranteed snow, two over-four-kilometrelong and optimally developed valley runs, mogul pistes and gentle slopes, the Audi quattro fun slope, the Crystal Ground snow park and the Easy
park for beginners. This winter, the new Bierenwangbahn will also go into operation – a comfortable six- seater chair lift with heated leather seats and a bubble for protection against the weather. This replaces the
resort’s final T-bar lift and creates the space needed for the newly expanded Bierenwang piste. Mountain restaurants with large terraces and free deckchairs add the perfect finishing touch to this glorious winter setting.

As a family mountain, the Söllereck near Oberstdorf with “Söllis Winterwelt” and extremely child-friendly pistes is well known both throughout and far beyond the Allgäu region. This winter, it lives up to its good reputation with a plethora of new facilities. Top of the list is the new “Söllis Winterwelt”, which offers visitors even more fun in the snow. Kids can’t help but love the year-round playground’s “SölliBully”, an extra-large, wooden piste bully for climbing on. A new con veyor transports you free of charge to the gentle practice slope for your first attempts at skiing, while further new conveyors head from the car park to the cable car and on to the practice slope. The Wannenlift offers an even stronger certainty of snow thanks to the modernised snowmaking equipment. This also benefits the “Söllis Skikindergarten” (ski nursery) with its interactive parcours on the Wannenpiste. But you don’t necessarily need skis to head down the slopes at speed – simply hop on the popular AllgäuCoaster!

Walmendingerhorn – Ifen – Heuberg Arena A short transfer on the ski bus brings together what goes together. Walmendingerhorn, Ifen and the Heuberg Arena in the Kleinwalsertal Valley form a glistening alliance. The new, joint ski pass enables you to enjoy all three areas as a single resort. conveniently lead you to the Walmendingerhorn and its pistes. The quality of the facilities in Ifen have seen further improvement this winter with a new, six-seater chair lift with heated seats and a bubble for protection against the weather. A new snow cannon furthermore
guarantees snow on eleven kilometres of piste. Twelve more kilometres are covered in natural snow only. Finally, the Heuberg Arena with its beginner- friendly pistes is likely to once again be a favourite for families with children this winter.

75,000 metres of cross-country skiing trails around Oberstdorf. Ten brilliantly groomed trails in the modernised route network offer the best conditions for exploring the area while also keeping fit. In addition to multi-lane cross-country skiing trails in the middle of the valley, you will also find more remote trails for exciting journeys of discovery with the family. We have selected three cross-country skiing trails to tell you about in more detail.

Cross-country skiing
The circular trail follows a diverse but easy route across the meadows and fields to the south of Oberstdorf, from the Walser Bridge on the south-west side of the village to the Loretto chapels. Along the way, it regularly passes points near the centre of Oberstdorf, where you can choose to join or leave it. After passing the lovely St. Loretto pilgrimage chapels, the trail continues to the Renksteg, offering spectacular views along the way. Here, you’ll find the point where the route joins the cross-country skiing trails from the last Nordic World Ski Championships in 2005 and the upcoming World Ski Championships in 2021. Stay on the circular trail and things quickly get more tranquil again. The trail leads idyllically along the edge of the forest running parallel to the Stillach in the far south-west of the Oberstdorf basin.

World Championship cross-country skiing trails

Near the cross-country skiing stadium, the World Champion ship cross-country skiing trails in the Ried area lead across pleasantly flat terrain. However, the steep climbs to the Burgstall and the rapid descents over bridges and round narrow bends back to the stadium are already in sight. The trails head along specially constructed cross-country skiing bridges and into the area of the Heini-Klopfer ski flying hill. Here, you can choose between a demanding mountain stage and a leisurely loop in the valley. Heading back towards the stadium, a long, sweat-inducing climb to the Burgstall awaits. Here, in the midst of the World Champion ship cross-country skiing trails from 1987 and 2005, athletic skiers will find exactly what they are looking for! The “difficult” section on the Burgstall in the Ried stadium can naturally also be missed out. If doing so, the easy cross-country skiing trails lead straight back to the Erdinger Arena cross-country skiing stadium in the Ried area.
Those who want to head along the cross-country skiing trail into the beautiful winter setting of the Trettachtal Valley first have to overcome an extremely demanding ascent in the Burgstall climb area. Large sections of the trail run along the cross-country skiing trails used for the World Championships in 1987 and 2005 and to be used for the upcoming World Championships in 2021. The cross- country skiing trail then continues along varied terrain with rises, descents and trail bridges to Dietersberg. It follows the Trettach River through a mixture of sunny areas and heavily snow-covered forests to Spielmannsau before doubling back to Dietersberg via Gottenried. On arrival at Dietersberg, the cross-country skiing trail continues along a picturesque, sunny loop back to the Haseltopf Bridge. After crossing the Trettach and a short, sharp climb to the “Rennblock”, the cross-country skiing trail leads back to the Burgstall climb, where the steep descents are guaranteed to provide a final highlight!

Want to try your hand at cross-country skiing? The Tourismus Oberstdorf organises a taster course on the night-time cross-country skiing trail in the Ried cross-country skiing stadium twice a week from about mid-December to midMarch, depending on snow levels. The taster course is run by the Oberstdorf ski schools. The price includes equipment hire and professional instruction.
The taster lesson for visitors and locals. Shooting will occur using laser guns over a 10 m distance, from both a standing and a lying position. A realistic biathlon experience for all! The taster course is held twice a week on the nighttime cross-country skiing trail in the Ried cross-country skiing stadium from about mid-December to mid-March, depending on snow levels. The price includes skating equipment and gun hire as well as professional instruction.

From the centre of Oberstdorf, the trail climbs past the Erdinger Arena to the Breitenberg, where the Wallrafweg trail begins. This was named after Max Wallraf, the former President of the German Reichstag and Lord Mayor of Cologne, who often visited Oberstdorf and inspired the hiking trail above the village and the southern Illertal Valley. On arrival at the Gaisalpe, at an altitude of 1,149 m, you are rewarded with a picturesque winter’s view of a snowy mountain landscape and the surrounding snow- covered peaks. To the north, the views stretch out over the whole of the Illertal Valley to the lowlands way beyond. The return route takes you along the road to Reichenbach. In the winter, the descent is also popularly used as a toboggan run. From Reichenbach, head along the meadow
paths and past the village of Rubi following a sunny trail with plenty of spectacular views back to the Dummelsmoos Bridge at the edge of Oberstdorf. Tip: If the Wallrafweg trail is closed, you can still reach the Gaisalpe via the wintry road from Reichenbach. If taking this route, make sure you pack your sledge for a fun and effortless descent. Options for breaks: Café Breitenberg, Gaisalpe mountain restaurant, Rubi, Reichenbach The hike is suitable for the whole family and you shouldn’t forget your sledge.

From Schönblick to Hochleite Length: 9 km Altitude metres: 600 m descent Duration: 4.5 hours Location: mid-altitude From the aptly named “Schönblick” (“beautiful view”) summit station of the Söllereck cable car, the winter hiking trail leads towards the Hochleite plain. Spectacular views over the entire southern region of the Upper Allgäu and the Oberstdorf basin provide a welcome change from the idyllic but dense winter forest. On reaching the Hochleite plain, the route becomes flatter, sunnier and with even more panoramas. Many magnificent views of the Stillachtal Valley and the main massif of the Allgäu Alps appear. From the mountain restaurant, the diverse and sunny descent takes you back to Schwand. From here, the trail continues past the Heini-Klopfer ski flying hill and the Dr. Rehweg trail to the western side of the Freibergsee Lake. On reaching the north-east edge of the Freibergsee basin, a stretch of slightly steeper trail heads down through
the forest to the lower Renksteg Bridge. The winter hiking trail then passes over the bridge and the open expanses of the Ösch meadows back to Oberstdorf. Tip: If there is plenty of snow and no ice, a brief sledge ride from the Hochleite mountain restaurant to Schwand offers great fun for people of all ages. Depending on availability and the number of people using the hiking trail, you can hire toboggans from the hut owner. Options for breaks: Schönblick mountain restaurant, Berghaus am Söller, Hochleite mountain restaurant, Schwand Alpine restaurant, Besler’s Schwand The hike is suitable for the whole family and you shouldn’t miss the opportunity for a sledge ride.

A winter’s day in the Trettachtal Valley Length: 13 km Altitude metres: 171 m Duration: 4.5 hours Location: valley
running parallel to the icy Trettach at all times and taking you leisurely back to Oberstdorf.
The trail leads past the Christlessee Lake, over the Truppersoy Bridge to Spielmannsau. To the south, you can enjoy impressive views of the snow-capped peaks of the Trettach spitze – one of the most striking mountains in the Allgäu Alps! In summer, this is the start of the popular Alpine stage of the E5 long-distance hiking route from Oberstdorf to Merano. In winter, only the return trail remains. After the Walser Bridge at the west edge of the village, a short, sharp section to the “Alte Walserstraße” begins. Following the Alte Walserstraße, the route climbs to the edge of Kornau, a tranquil and idyllic district that lies in a sunny position above Oberstdorf. In addition to the 16th century village chapel of St. Fabian & Sebastian, this is home to the former workshop of the Swabian writer Arthur Maximilian Miller, whose most famous works include “Die schwäbische Weihnacht” (“A Swabian Christmas”). On reaching the end of the village, the trail briefly passes along a former cattle drive route, heading slightly steeper
uphill to the valley station of the Söllereck cable car. Following a brief, wintry section through a forest, the trail leads to the picturesquely located Bergkristall hut. Passing a pretty area where wild game are fed, the trail continues along the Bergkristallweg and the Waldesruhe back to Oberstdorf. Tip: The hike distance can be almost halved by taking a bus to the Söllereck cable car station. Depending on your preferences, you can therefore cut out the partially steep ascents or descents from and to Oberstdorf.

From the Mühlen Bridge at the south-east edge of Oberstdorf, the winter hiking trail follows the icy Trettach River over diverse terrain to the bridge over the Oybach River. Before reaching the bridge, the snow-covered Dr.Hohenadel-Weg runs parallel to the wild and often frozen Bachlauf River up to the Oytal Valley. The wintry Alpine Road (which is closed to public transport) now passes along quaint, narrow streets and through the idyllic, snowy winter landscape to the Oytalhaus. This is where the network of safe, cleared winter hiking trails ends in winter. The white silhouette of the mountains in the rear section of the Oytal Valley and the rugged, vertically climbing, frozen rock faces of the Seewände Mountains are equally as impressive as the gentle, snow-covered and enchanting winter landscape along the valley floor. The
route back to Oberstdorf initially retraces its footprints before heading back down the well-maintained Alpine Road out of the valley. Passing the picturesquely located Kühberg and the Erdinger ski jumping arena, the trail returns to this circular hike’s starting point. Tip: If you plan to visit the Oytal Valley during your holiday and the current conditions make the winter hike there possible, you shouldn’t wait for too long before setting off! It’s far from rare for all of the trails into the Oytal to be temporarily closed due to the risk of avalanches. Anyone who delays their visit for too long runs the risk of snowfall and potential avalanches forcing them to rethink their plans. The hike is suitable for the whole family.

There are many trails that lead to Oberstdorf’s sunny southern flatlands with their spectacular views. From the upper market, the route past the Halde is a rewarding one, and the shortest route to the meadows in the Ösch Valley. Numerous routes run from Walserstraße in the lower market to the meadow trails. The southern and western edges of the sun-drenched meadows are restricted by the Stillach River and the causeways that run along it. Many of the winter hiking trails that start at the western edge of the village meet at the weather station. The views stretch from the Rubihorn to the Nebelhorn and across almost all of the Oberstdorf mountains to far in the north-west, over the Söllereck. From here, a rewarding circular trail takes you along the Buchstock, facing the sun with constant views of the Oytal, Trettachtal and Stillachtal Valleys. On reaching the Stillach River, the causeway runs right

alongside the water and over the Ziegelbach Bridge to the Karatsbichl. After a heavily snow-covered section along the Stillach, things get increasingly sunny again at the Karatsbichl. Cross the Karatsbichl Bridge, head along the Karatsbichl trail and you’re really not far from the village now. Of course, there are again many different trails that you can take for the final stretch. Tip: The sunny toboggan slope on the Karatsbichl is particularly popular with children! Parents can keep a watchful eye on them while sitting back and relaxing on deckchairs on the delightful sun terrace. The route is suitable for the whole family and accessible for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

The Oberstdorf snowshoe educational trail Be the first to leave your tracks in the untouched snow while enjoying the peaceful surroundings – all in harmony with nature. The heavily snow-covered winter landscape shows off its magical side with glistening powder snow and icy plants. It’s certainly worth exploring without skis, snowboards and lifts. Instead, try a pair of snowshoes, one of the oldest pieces of equipment for getting around in the snow. Every Wednesday, the Tourismus Oberstdorf offers guided snowshoe hikes on Oberstdorf’s first snowshoe educational trail. The route takes participants to six different boards with clear information about snowshoe hiking and route planning. The hike is primarily aimed at guests with no prior experience, who want to try their hand at walking in the giant shoes. With a trained mountain guide, the participants follow the snowshoe educational trail and explore the Ried-Burgstallsteig region and the Oberstdorf great outdoors.

Breitachklamm ravine Europe’s deepest canyon
Whatever the season, whether summer or winter, the Breitachklamm ravine in Tiefenbach near Oberstdorf is open for your enjoyment all year round – with the exception of the snowmelt period and late autumn. When winter comes and the raging stream that sweeps through the gorge from the Kleinwalsertal Valley towards Oberstdorf transforms into bizarre ice sculptures and the impressive rock walls are covered in huge icicles, a particularly stunning natural spectacle is created. A visit is more than worthwhile whatever the weather. The broad hiking trail through the deep canyon provides excellent protection against the wind and bad weather. However, sturdy footwear is still a must. You can reach the Breitachklamm by heading along the B 19 (Sonthofen-Oberstdorf) towards Tiefenbach then following the signs. A large car park can be found by the entrance to the ravine. Alternatively, use the frequent bus service from Oberstdorf bus station to the Breitachklamm car park. After traversing the canyon and arriving in the Kleinwalsertal Valley, you can simply hop back on a bus to Oberstdorf from the Walserschanze bus stop. The nature

information centre by the entrance to the Breitachklamm offers you an interactive exhibition. Exclusive mountain life exhibits and an impressive, free film in the cinema room provide interesting and useful information about the creation and ecology of the unique natural spectacle. An evening torchlight hike through the bizarre icy and wintry landscape of the Breitachklamm is particularly enticing. A unique experience with unforgettable sights awaits you. The torchlight hikes are offered by the Breitachklamm Association from late December until well into March every Tuesday and Friday at 7 p.m. (weather dependent). The meeting place for the hikes is the Breitachklamm entrance building in Tiefenbach. You do not need to book in advance. Heimatmuseum Oberstdorf The mountain village museum The Oberstdorfer Heimatmuseum (local history museum) is located in a 17th century period property in Oberstdorf. Fortune has it that despite a major fire in 1865 and the modernisation craze in the 1970s, the original core of the building is still intact. The museum opened in the historic premises in 1932 and has been continually expanded ever since.

Exhibits show how the destitute inhabitants of our mountain village survived, farmed the Alps, led the first visitors up into the mountains and learned to ski, among other things. You will also find the largest leather ski boot in the world – shoe size 480, over three metres long and one-anda-half metres high. Only those who are aware of the past can understand the present.

The NTC Park by the Seealpe station on the Nebelhorn offers fun and action for all, bringing you winter sports in a very simple and entertaining manner. Pay the admission and spend a fun and exciting day on an array of different sports equipment. All of the recreational sports in the NTC Park by the Seealpe station are quick and easy to learn and great fun. Whether on the tubing track, a snowbike, a skifox or an airboard, pure winter fun is guaranteed. There is also plenty for kids to do on the Nebelhorn. In addition to the activities in the NTC Park, they are also awaited by exciting and diverse themed descents, such as the forest adventure track. Heini-Klopfer ski flying hill Idyllically located in the Stillachtal Valley and with a 72 m- high start tower, this is one of the world’s biggest ski flying hills. Since April 2016, the hill has been extensively modernised in preparation for the Ski Flying World Championships in spring 2018. Fingers crossed that it will be ready: the Ski Flying World Cup will take place on the renovated ski flying hill in February 2017 as a test for the World Championships.

Active and exciting: the story of how the mountains were formed The Bergschau (literally meaning “mountain show”) uses a fun and active approach to tell visitors about the evolution of the flora and fauna of the Allgäu Alps, how the mountains were formed and the links between people and nature. One of the four Bergschau centres is located in the old town hall in Oberstdorf and offers basic information about geology, nature and culture in the Allgäu Alps. You’ll also find fascinating insights into the history of the glaciers, the cohabitation of plants and animals and how people make a living in the mountains. Experienced staff members will happily help you with any questions or if you want any additional information. In addition to the Bergschau visitor centres with permanent natural history exhibitions, in summer you can also visit eleven Bergschau outdoor information points and hike five Bergschau trails. The old town hall is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. to 6 p.m. plus Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

2,000 m above sea level, 3,000 m³ of frozen water and a whole lot of snow: each of the igloos is an inhabitable sculpture decorated with original reliefs by local Allgäu artists. A bar made from pure ice catches the eye in the igloo site. Anyone can visit the lodge while the cable car is open but for a totally unique experience, you should come and stay overnight. Guests can choose between a standard igloo (sleeps 4) or a romantic igloo (sleeps 2). An igloo suite is also available for very special occasions. After the sun has set, the guests are served the famous Allgäu cheese fondue. The next morning, breakfast is served in the nearby Höfatsblick summit station. Thanks to the low centre of gravity, the risk of falling is far lower than with alpine skiing. As the rider is not attached to the bike, there are no leverage forces like those when skiing or snowboarding. Funkensonntag (Bonfire Sunday) 05 March 2017
At the start of Lent, on the first Sunday after Fasnacht (Carnival), huge bonfires light up the night’s sky in many open areas around Oberstdorf. The origins of this ancient custom are still unclear and there are many possible explanations. Some associate the bonfires with the many Easter and Midsummer fires and say that they burn all things wicked at the end of winter in order to strengthen the sun and ward off evil. This explains why a straw witch is symbolically set alight. Others associate the event with the fertility rituals and burnt offerings of the Celts. Today, Bonfire Sunday is a sociable occasion that’s great fun to watch as the tall wooden pyres go up in flames and blaze away against the night sky. Funke-Kiechle The deliciously sweet “Funke-Kiechle” are a firm favourite of visitors and locals alike and an integral part of any Bonfire Sunday celebrations. These tantalising, fried treats are only available on this one day. They are washed down with a cup of hot mulled wine and enjoyed in good company around the fire!

The wild “Klausen” of Oberstdorf
An ancient custom from pagan times As the time comes for cosy winter evenings, customs in Oberstdorf start to come alive. These include one of the oldest customs: the Allgäu “Klausen” processions. When people’s fears of evil spirits overpowered them on dark nights, the young Oberstdorf locals dressed up in fur garments, put on fur-covered heads with deer antlers and ran through the narrow streets rattling chains to drive away the evil spirits. For many years, only long-established Oberstdorf locals were allowed to join in. Today, this rule is no longer quite as strict. And it’s no longer only evil spirits that are hunted. Instead, it’s cheeky young ladies and curious spectators. On 6 December, the “Klausen” take over the Oberstdorf streets. Two days beforehand (St. Barbara), the women of Oberstdorf meet at nightfall. They don traditional everyday clothing from days gone by and head for the women’s procession, known as the Klausenbärbel-Treiben.
i Please note During the event, the Trachtenverein Oberstdorf (Oberstdorf Traditional Costume Association) ensures that things don’t get out of control. Despite this, the Klausen day is not everyone’s thing and even the locals often prefer to observe the spec tacle out of the window from the comfort and warmth of their own home. Children and people unfamiliar with the custom should particularly heed this advice! Please also note that the public infrastructure companies close by no later than 6 p.m. on these days and 98 % of gastronomy establishments are closed on these evenings.

What could feel more peaceful, lovely and cosy than listening to traditional folk music and the local dialect at Advent and Christmas time? In Oberstdorf, this is a calm and tranquil period. Whether lively or profound in Oberstdorf dialect, traditional melodies or classic songs – transport yourself back to days gone by and escape everyday life. Each Saturday at 5 p.m., the candles on the large Advent wreath in the Kurpark are lit in a jovial atmosphere. The diverse Advent programme then commences in the Oberstdorf Haus at 5.30 p.m. The stalls in the Kurpark and the Oberstdorf Haus are open from 3 p.m. Drink a mug of mulled wine with friends and enjoy the atmospheric music – or as the Oberstdorf locals would say in their fantastic dialect: “Hui garte hong und dr Museg lose” (“have a gettogether and listen to the music”). Many Oberstdorf groups such as
alpine horn blowers, yodellers or the local band also contribute to the merry atmosphere. You can also look forward to music from people in traditional costumes, dulcimer music, readings and poetry in local dialect.

Start of the 65th Four Hills Tournament in the Oberstdorf World Championship Ski Jumping Arena
When the 65th Four Hills Tournament kicks off on 29 and 30 / 12 / 2016, more than 30,000 spectators will pack the stadium at the foot of the Schattenberg to cheer on whoever wins the first competition in the world’s most prestigious ski jumping series – and becomes the favourite for the subsequent events (31 / 12 / 2016 + 01 / 01 / 2017 Garmisch-Partenkirchen, 03 + 04 / 01 / 2017 Innsbruck and 05 + 06 / 01 / 2017 Bischofshofen). Will Germany’s champion ski jumper Severin Freund once again achieve victory in front of his home crowd? Or is there simply no beating Slovenia’s number one, the overall World Champion and Ski Flying World Champion Peter Prevc? Of course, we must not forget the other international competitors, like the young guns from Norway and the Austrian eagles, who will give everything they’ve got to re-gain overall victory for Austria. Stefan Huber, Secretary-General of the opening jump event in Oberstdorf, is already getting excited: “Severin Freund showed us last winter that he can be at the top of the game. We’re naturally crossing our fingers for another German success at the opening event in Oberstdorf.”

The world elite from the cross-country skiing scene will head to Oberstdorf on 03 and 04 January 2017 Straight after New Year, Oberstdorf will host its second major sporting event of the winter: two stages of the FIS Tour de Ski, the world’s most prestigious cross-country skiing series, will be held on the World Championship trails in the Ried arena. Ladies’ FIS Ski Jumping World Cup World Cup competition for the ladies elite in Oberstdorf on 07 and 08 January 2017
Oberstdorf has already hosted the Ladies’ Ski Jumping World Cup twice before. This winter, a World Cup ski jump will take place on the large HS 137 hill in the Oberstdorf’s Erdinger Arena for the first time. The German team led by Olympic and World Champion Carina Vogt particularly want to show that their disappoint ing result at the last World Cup was a mere mishap and they are strong contenders for the win in Oberstdorf. Local matador Katharina Althaus from SC Oberstdorf and her team mates will also do their all to land right out front. “We have already had the pleasure of hosting two World Cups before and this makes us all the more excited about welcoming the best ski jumping women to the big slope this winter. We will do everything possible to make this a fantastic event for both the athletes and the spectators”, commented Stefan Huber, Secretary-General. 58

Ski fliers are returning to the renovated Heini-Klopfer ski flying hill
After four years, the eagles of the air are once again returning to the Stillachtal Valley near Oberstdorf. Following on from the last Ski Flying World Cup in 2013, the next edition of the event will be held on the Heini- Klopfer ski flying hill in February 2017. This will be a great indicator in two respects. This will be the first practical test for the new ski jump since its renovation – and one which will show who can instantly deal the best with the new profile. With an extremely long list of potential favourites, the competition promises to be an exciting one. And who knows ... perhaps someone totally unexpected will fly to victory. At the same time, the World Cup also acts as the general test-run for the Ski Flying World Championships 2018 in Oberstdorf –
and the winner of the World Cup will automatically be among those competing for the title at the World Championships. “The last World Cup for individuals on the ‘old’ jump was won by the German ski jumper Richard Freitag. We are therefore naturally crossing our fingers for the German eagles and hoping they can repeat this success on the new jump too. Of course, we also can’t wait to see what the new jump record will be”, comments an excited Stefan Huber, Secretary-General, in relation to the ski flying.

Use of public transport Holders of an ID card with a valid travel token can use the local public transport operated by RVA or Brutscher free of charge (with the exception of journeys to the Klein walsertal Valley and excursions). If the ID card also specifies an accompanying person, he / she is also entitled to use the bus for free. If there is no travel token, only the accompanying person is free, i.e. the accompanying person must be specified on the ID card.
