More than 2,500 Students in the Council Bluffs Community School District will ride to and from school on 62 buses this year. The District contracts transportation services with First Student, Inc. and is fortunate to have an experienced team of drivers. Who is Eligible to Ride the Bus at No Cost on one of our Bus Routes? District policy 701.5 and Section 285.1 of the School Laws of Iowa outline transportation privileges for Students as follows: • • • •
Eligible riders are defined as “Elementary Students living two miles or more from school.” The two-mile limit is defined as being “from a point at the edge of the roadway nearest the front door of the residence measured to a point at the edge of the driveway nearest the front door of the school by the nearest and most safe traveled roadway.” A Student may be required to catch the school bus on the approved route by walking up to three-fourths of a mile to a bus stop. Preschool Students will not be transported to school on a bus unless they qualify for Special Education Transportation services.
Student Bus Assignments and Assigned Stops Due to the number of students in our district using our transportation services, we do not allow students to ride a bus other than the one to which they were assigned, or to board a bus at a stop other than the one assigned. This enables the district to keep a record of students on the bus in case of an accident or emergency. Please know that there is no supervision provided by the school district at bus stops. Parents are encouraged to arrange for students to walk to and from, and to wait at the bus stop, with at least one other student. Student Conduct and Safety Reminders The school district’s Code of Conduct will be enforced on all buses. Students are expected to behave on the bus as they would in school. Once students board the bus, the bus driver is charged with maintaining discipline. All buses are equipped with video cameras as part of our safety plan. Bus referrals will be used to record and communicate any student violation of bus rules. SAFETY is our priority! Y es afortunado de tener un equipo experimentado de conductores. ¿Quién es elegible de tomar el autobús sin costo en una de nuestras Rutas de Autobús? La política del distrito 701.5 y la Sección 285.1 de las Leyes Escolares de Iowa esboza los privilegios de transporte para los Alumnos de la siguiente forma: • • • •
Los pasajeros elegibles se definen como “Alumnos de Primaria que viven dos millas o más de la escuela”. Las Asignaciones de Autobuses y Paradas Asignadas del Estudiante Debido al número de alumnos en nuestro distrito que utilizan los servicios de transporte, no permitimos que los alumnos viajen en un autobús distinto del cual se les fue asignado, o para subirse a un autobús en una parada que no sea la asignada. Esto ayuda al distrito a mantener un registro de alumnos en el autobús en caso de accidentes o emergencias. Por favor sepan que no hay supervisión proporcionada por el distrito escolar en las paradas escolares. Se anima a los padres para hacer arreglos para que los alumnos caminen hacia y desde, y esperar en la parada de autobús, con por lo menos otro alumno. Conducta del Estudiante y Recordatorios de Seguridad El Código de Conducta del distrito escolar se aplicará en todos los autobuses. Se espera que los alumnos se comporten en el autobús como lo harían en la escuela. Una vez que los alumnos se suban en el autobús, el conductor del autobús se encarga de mantener la disciplina. Todos los autobuses están equipados con cámaras de video como parte de nuestro plan de seguridad. Reportes de mala conducta en el autobús se utilizarán para registrar y comunicar cualquier violación estudiantil de las reglas de autobús. ¡La SEGURIDAD es nuestra prioridad! Rutas de Autobús El Horario del Autobús del distrito será publicado el día 2 de Agosto en la sección de Regreso a Clases (Back to School) del periódico Daily Nonpareil de Council Bluffs y en el sitio web del distrito en www.cb-schools.org.
