September 2017
September 17th is Catechetical Sunday and a opportunity to recognize all of the wonderful volunteers and paid staffs who give of their time so generously for spreading the faith. I am often called to pray with 1 Cor. 3 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. For we are coworkers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building. A blessing indeed. As we begin this year of work with adults, families and youth let us become true servants of the Lord Jesus and collaborates with the Holy Sprit. By this ministry God gives life to our work.
Prepare yourselves well. Pray, study and learn in order to share the faith we hold so dearly. It is God’s work. Be kind and gently with your students. Tells stories that give life to your classroom and to our faith. Remember to evangelize and teach them to do the same. I read a quote from Pope Francis that really touch me and what I need to do. I share it so that it too may give your strength in this work. “At Baptism our parents gave us a name but the Church has also given us another name: Christopher—Christ Bearer”. May we be that Light of Christ to those we meet.” Our challenge as Church today is to be the Christ Bearer. So many people need God’s word, comfort, strength and hope today.

El programa de Maestría en Catequesis comenzó con gran entusiasmo en agosto. Cuarenta y cinco líderes catequéticos de los tres condados se reunieron para profundizar en la comprensión de las encíclicas y exhortaciones apostólicas que vienen de "Una Iglesia que Escucha, Discierne y Responde" a las realidades de nuestro tiempo. "Las alegrías y las esperanzas, los dolores y las angustias de los hombres de esta edad, especialmente aquellos que son pobres o de cualquier manera afligida, que estas son las alegrías y esperanzas, penas y angustias de los discípulos de Cristo." (Gaudium et Spes, #1) A través de la Lectio Divina, presentaciones, intercambio de ideas /Reflexiones y la convivencia, los asistentes del programa de Maestría en Catequesis formaron comunidad y profundizaron su Fe.
The Master Catechist program began with great enthusiasm in August as 45 catechetical leaders from the three counties gathered to deepen their understanding of how official documents, encyclicals and apostolic exhortations come from “A Church that Listens, Discerns and Responds” to the realities of our time. “The joys and the hopes, the griefs and the anxieties of the men of this age, especially those who are poor or in any way afflicted, these are the joys and hopes, the griefs and anxieties of the followers of Christ.” (Gaudium et Spes, #1) Through Lectio Divina, presentations, discussion and refreshments community was formed and faith was deepened for those attending this year’s Master Catechist program.

Preparación de Equipos Para QuinWe are happy to inform you that, as of January 2018 we are initiating a formation program for Quinceañera Teams. Upon requests received from various parishes to provide formation for Quinceañeras and their families, the Faith Formation Office has put together a training program for parish Quinceañera Teams that includes faith formation, liturgy and culture according to the guidelines of the Archdiocesan Faith Formation Office and Liturgical norms. This training is given in Spanish or Bilingually in collaboration with the Office of Worship. Guidelines will be available on our Webpage. 17

Let us know if we can support you by training your leaders to carry out this ministry as a Quinceañera Team. This would include formation in the Pastoral Knowledge of this Tradition, Liturgy Planning and Orientation Sessions for parents, youth and sponsors (Padrinos y Madrinas). This training can be done in Spanish or Bi-lingual (Spanish and English).
