Pentecost Sunday

Solemnidad de Pentecostés

Today we celebrate the "birthday of the Church!" Pentecost is described in the first reading from the Acts of the Apostles. But before the great driving wind and tongues of fire empowering the Disciples, the Holy Spirit had already arrived. The Gospel for today's Mass during the day is from John 20. Jesus appears to the fearful disciples after his resurrection. He first speaks a message of calm. "Peace be with you." The apostles "rejoiced when they saw the Lord." When the enthusiastic response settles down, Jesus "breathed on them and said to them 'Receive the Holy Spirit.'" This action is Trinitarian, and it has happened before. If you turn your Bible back to the beginning, you'll read: "The Lord God formed man out of the clay of the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and so many became a living being" (Genesis 2:7). In the Garden of Eden, we see God's first, original covenant with man. The breath of life signifies that original indwelling of grace, the special state of likeness and friendship with God before the Fall. Here now, in this locked room, the Apostles receive the long-awaited promise: the very breath of God, new life, a new covenant. In the pairing of these two readings--the Pentecost experience in Acts and the breath of Jesus in John's Gospel -we see that the coming of the Holy Spirit is not only an empowering, it is an indwelling. We have each received the breath of grace in our baptism. It is confirmed, strengthened, and deepened in each reception of the sacraments. If we persevere in virtue, the Spirit of God is alive in us, inspiring our actions of love. This Pentecost Sunday, how is the breath of God alive in you?

La Fiesta de Pentecostés es el culmen de la Pascua, su temática es rico sobre el Espíritu Santo. La antífona de entrada nos recuerda la grandeza de la Liturgia de hoy. "El Espíritu del Señor ha llenado toda la tierra; él da unidad a todas las cosas y se hace comprender en todas las lenguas. Aleluya". (Misal Romano página 225). Todas las lenguas, si las que están basadas en el amor, la compasión y la esperanza. "Ven Espíritu de Dios. Para vivir, te necesitamos como el agua: desciende una vez más sobre nosotros y enséñanos la unidad, renueva nuestros corazones y enséñanos a amar como tú nos amas, a perdonar como tú nos perdonas". Lo dijo el Papa Francisco. (Radio Vaticana 04/06/17). Este Domingo de Pentecostés, celebramos que el Señor resucitado da el Espíritu Santo a sus discípulos. Para que sean testigos y den testimonio de su resurrección y sus enseñanzas, llegando posiblemente hasta el martirio. Este Espíritu glorifica a Jesús. ¿Cómo lo glorifico yo? ¿Cómo es mi testimonio sobre Jesús resucitado? ¿Cómo es mi servicio en el ministerio que represento en la parroquia? ¡Ven, Espíritu Santo! Para que nos comuniques el gusto por las cosas de Dios, si, porque el mundo ha perdido sus valores, las familias ya no se comunican entre ellos. A veces, tenemos que sufrir grandes desastres naturales para saber entendernos. Hemos perdido el valor de cuidar la creación, de respetar la vida humana, y de los animales. ¡Ven te necesitamos y llénanos de tus dones! Sopla sobre nosotros y danos tu paz.

Eucharistic Procession Sunday, June 3 Dear Parishioners, please mark your calendars for the Eucharistic Procession immediately following the 10:00 Mass on June 3. This is a historic event for our parish. We are bringing the Eucharist to the streets in triumphal procession. We declare his real presence in the Eucharist and pray that He bless our city. This is a very old tradition from the 12 th century on the Feast of Corpus Christi, the body and blood of the Lord. We have purchased a canopy (thanks to your contributions) which was been embroidered and dedicated. It is nicer than the one in the above picture. If you don’t attend the 10:00 a.m. mass you can come to the end of Mass for the procession. We will be escorted by the police. We will walk on Browning and then right on Milton to Newman and then Rock Island and back to the parish. We will have one stop along the way. This is part of a celebration. We will process with songs. Please support this effort and if you can’t walk that is okay, you can remain in the Church in prayer. I pray that through this procession our parish is blessed with a strong faith in the Holy Eucharist, the source and summit of our faith that Jesus left us at the Last Supper. Let us follow the Lord in procession. Kids who just got their first communion please wear your first communion clothes on June 3. I ask all organizations in our parish to promote this to your members.

Queridos feligreses, por favor marquen sus calendarios para la Procesión Eucarística inmediatamente después de la Misa de las 10:00 el 3 de junio. Parish Counseling Services is here at Most Holy Trinity Have you ever felt the need to see a counselor who shares your faith? Sometimes in life, we hit road bumps or we notice habitual ways of thinking or acting that come from something that perhaps happened to us. A Christian Counselor can help us to let go of the past, see ourselves and situations more clearly, and to live with more freedom in the present. At our parish, we are blessed to have a Catholic Counselor from Rejoice Counseling Apostolate. I assure you that the parish counselors from Rejoice believe in the importance of God’s grace to help bring us wholeness and will encourage the living out of the Catholic Faith for you or your marriage. Counseling onsite is now available at our parish.
