INTRODUCTION The battery must be removed before any other part is serviced or replaced. The CD/DVD drive is secured with two screws. To access the two screws holding in the CD/DVD drive, the hard drive and RAM covers must be removed. When the screws are removed, the CD/DVD drive slides easily out of the laptop.

Step 1 — Battery 

Turn the laptop over and orient it as shown in the figure.



Slide the lock latch to the right to release the battery lock.



Slide and hold the release latch to the left.

Use a fingernail or plastic opening tool lift the battery while holding the release latch.Rotate the battery up and away from you to remove it from the laptop.

Use a Phillips #1 screwdriver to loosen all four screws. These screws are secured to their covers with retaining clips.

Step 5 

Lift the two covers with a fingernail or plastic opening tool from the sides the screws were present. Two tabs are securing the covers on the side opposite the screws.



Use a Phillips #1 screwdriver to remove both 6.5mm screws and set them aside.

Step 7 

Gently slide the CD/DVD drive out of the laptop.
