Die Mauer im Kopf der Menschen

So I’m sitting with Beau in the nosebleeds when Mauer takes the plate. Beau asks about Joe’s fall from grace, why he can’t clear the wall like he used to. I say, It’s the concussion from a couple years back— He’s gotta see over the mental wall first, as the first ball falls under club-armed swing. Beau isn’t buying it, so I explain— It’s like the wall in Berlin: just because it isn’t there anymore doesn’t mean Germany’s gotten over it. But before I get too political, Beau pitches me this business deal he thinks is gonna be a home run if he can only get some investors. I tell him investors won’t knock it out of the park for him if they can’t envision it themselves, but Joe’s cracking one foul right now, and Beau doesn’t like hearing it anyway, so we watch the game in silence: The pitcher nods, throws Mauer his best wrecking ball, and Joe’s struck out looking.
