¿Cuál(es)? = which (ones)?
- Used to ask for a definition
- Used when asking for a choice among several possibilities
- Used to ask for an explanation However…
•Unless you are asking for a definition, ¿Qué? cannot be followed by ser, so in those cases, use ¿Cuál?
•¿Cuál(es)? cannot be immediately followed by a noun, so in those cases, either use ¿qué [noun]? or use ¿Cuál(es) de [article & noun]?
¿Cuál es tu número de teléfono? ¿Cuál es tu nombre? ¿Cuál es la fecha de hoy?
¿Qué fruta quieres? ¿Cuál de las frutas quieres?
