Garret FitzGerald, Philadelphia (USA) Pietro Minuz, Verona (Italy) Carlo Patrono, Rome (Italy) Giampaolo Velo, Verona (Italy) Scientfic Advisory Board: Jane Armitage, Oxford, UK Valerie O’Donnell, Cardiff, UK David Sacerdoti, Padova, Italy Site: Ettore Majorana Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture, Erice, Trapani (Italy) International School of Pharmacology Dates: Arrival on 26th September 2017, scientific sessions from 27th to 29th September 2017, departure on 30th September 2017 Aim of the Course: The recent identification of a high interplay among cancer cells, inflammatory cells and platelets mediated by bioactive lipids opened new fields of research linking different pathophysiological mechanisms in a more complex scenario. Three years after the previous course on Eicosanoids, part of a series of 9 courses on the topic since in 1976, the interest has broadened to the concept of lipid mediators (including a variety of bioactive compounds from prostanoids to recently identified bioactive sphingolipids) in a wider sense. Aim of the Course is to focus on the role of lipid mediators in cardiovascular medicine, oncology and inflammation related disorders, with high quality speakers that could inspire and lead young researchers in this exciting and multifaced topic. Young participants will be encouraged to actively participate to discussion and to present the results of their scientific work. Participation: A total of around 60 participants can be accommodated. The cost of the Course is € 400.- which includes the participation in the course, airport transfers in Sicily, and living expenses in Erice. We are pleased to be able to offer scholarships of € 300.- each to 25 students, which will cover a substantial part of the cost of the Course. The remaining part (€ 100.-) will need to be paid locally.
