WOODBERRY FOREST IN CUBA Juniors and seniors (10-12 students) March 5 – 15 Stay in Cuba: Private Houses Cultural exchange program is an experience of a lifetime. The mixing of cultures and backgrounds provides young people with an unforgettable awareness and lifelong appreciation of each other. The program in Cuba is designed for serious and mature students who want to experience and learn for themselves about a nation-state that is following an alternative economic, political, and social model to that of the United States. The objective of the Cuban Program is to enhance the student educational experience, and knowledge of Latin American culture and literature. Moreover, provide an exchange of knowledge by working with students in Cuba and teachers that will offer students opportunities to explore this historical region, while confronting the daily challenges of a changing society. Students in the program will be exposed to Cuban history, culture and literature as well as Spanish. In addition to attending lectures by Cuban scholars and artists, visiting museums and viewing films “Students will able to see the contradictions and hardships faced by Cubans as their socialist economy becomes dollarized and turns to capitalist ventures, such as tourism to survive. We will visit Casa de las Américas, which is the most important cultural institution in Latin America. Studying there provides students with a deep understanding of the culture that would be impossible to completely grasp through course work alone. Also, we are going to visit la Universidad de la Habana, one of the most prestigious universities in Latin America. The length of the program is ten days and we will stay at Hotel Santa Isabel - Old Havana. Every group of students will have a project to develop in Cuba and they will make their presentation to the WFS upon arrival. Requirements: 1.
