The Oktoberfest in Munich, also called the „Wiesn“, is the world’s largest beer festival and funfair. More than six million visitors attend the event annually. Each year, around 7.5 million litres of beer, 500,000 roast chickens and 200,000 pork sausages are consumed, mostly in the beer tents of traditional Munich breweries. The first Oktoberfest was held in 1810 to celebrate the wedding of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. The festivities began on 12th October 1810 and concluded on 17th October with a horse race. Over the following years, the festival was repeated and was eventually extended and brought forward in time.
