NYS ELA & MATHEMATICS EXAMINATION sear Parents. All public schools must administer the New York State English Language Arts and Mathematics Examination to all students on the following dates. The ELA test assesses standards for reading, listening and writing. The Mathematics test will assess Mathematics Learning Standards. Both tests will have multiple choice and extended response questions.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU HELP YOUR CHILD IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS: Be sure that your child receives the proper rest the night before each test. Be sure that your child has a good breakfast on the morning of the test. See that your child arrives to school on time. See that your child brings 2 pens and two #2 PENCILS. Remind your child to: + Listen actively: ears tuned in and minds open. + Pay attention to illustrations, charts, diagrams, and summaries. They help the child grasp ideas. + Write neatly and express himself/herself clearly. + Use a watch or look at the blackboard (THE TIMES WILL BE POSTED) in order to track of the time. The child must pace himselflherself. Students will not have access to their cell phones. + Take time to proofread his /her work. + Never give up. Use all the time allowed by going over the test and checking their work carefully before handing their booklet. EXAMEN ESTATAL DE ARTES DEL IDIOMA INGLES Y DE MATEMATICAS Estimados Padres, Todas las escueias püblicas del Estado de Nueva York, administrarán a los estudiantes el Examen Estatal de Artes del Idioma Inglés, (ELA, por sus siglas en Inglés) y ci de Matemãticas en las fechas indicadas en ci Calendario al final de Ia carta. El examen de Artes del idioma ingles evalüa los estándares de aprendizaje en comprensiOn oral, lectura y redacción. La prueba de matemáticas evaivará los estndares de aprendizaje en matemáticas. En

ambas pruebas los estudiantes encontrarán preguntas con respuestas extendidas, asf como también respuestas con diferentes opciones. ES IMPORTANTE QUE USTED AYUDE A SU HIJO/A DE LA SIGUIENTE MANERA: 1. Asegürese que la noche antes del examen su hijo/a descanse debidamente. 2. Proveer a su hijo/a un desayuno nutritivo en la mañana del examen. 3. Aseg(irese que su hijo/a Ilegue puntual a la escuela. 4. Asegürese de que su hijo/a ileve 2 bolIgrafos y 2 lápices #2 con punta. 5. Recuérdele a su hijo/a que debe: • Escuchar atentamente manteniendo sus oIdos afinados y su mente alerta. + Poner atención a las ilustraciones, mapas, gráficos, diagramas y resümenes. Esto Ic ayuda a su hijo/a a comprender las ideas. + Escribir y expresarse con ciaridad. •• Usar un reloj o mirar la pizarra, (La hora seth escrita continuamente), con ci fin de planificar su tiempo y trabajar a la velocidad del mismo. Los estudiantes no tendrán acceso a sus teléfonos celuiares. •• Tomar tiempo de leer y revisar su examen. •• No se Detenga. Aproveche todo ci tiempo permitido para revisar y verificar su examen cuidadosamente antes de entregar su folleto.
