Feast of the Epiphany January 6, 2019 The Adoration of the Magi by Giotto

Epiphany is celebrated 12 days after Christmas on 6th January and is the time when Christians remember the Wise Men (also sometimes called the Three Kings) who visited Jesus Epiphany is also when some Churches remember when Jesus was Baptized. when he was about 30, and started to teach people about God. Epiphany means 'revelation' and both the visit of the Wise Men and his Baptism are important times when Jesus was 'revealed' to be very important. Epiphany is mainly celebrated by Catholics and Orthodox Christians. It's a big and important festival in Spain, where it's also known as 'The festival of the three Magic Kings' 'Fiesta de Los tres Reyes Magos', and is when Spanish and some other Catholic children receive their presents - as they are delivered by the Three Kings!

SCB School News Happy New Year! School resumes Monday, January 7. Our parish school invites families with children who will be in preschool - 6th grade to meet teachers, parents and students at our Open House on Sunday, January 27th at 11:30 am. Nuestra escuela parroquial les invita a las familias con niños que estarán en preescolar - 6º grado a conocer a los maestros, padres y estudiantes en nuestra Open House el domingo 27 de enero a las 11:30 am. Holy Days of Obligation In the Catholic Church, Holy Days of Obligation are the days on which the faithful are obliged to participate in the Mass. They are also to abstain from unnecessary works, "which hinder the worship to be rendered to God, the joy proper to the Lord’s day, or the suitable relaxation of mind and body." (Canon 1247 of the Code of Canon Law). The list of Days of Obligation includes all Sundays in all countries. Some feasts, e.g. Easter, are always celebrated on Sundays, so they are always obligatory.

ESPACIO CATEQUISTICO A todos los Catequistas…. Quiero saludarlos en este nuevo Año 2019 y en este Nuevo espacio que nos brindan para mantenernos en comunicación y sobre todo para animar nuestra Vocación de Catequistas. Recordemos las palabras de San Juan pablo segundo: ¨EL CATEQUISTA ES EL CORAZON DE LA IGLESIA¨ ¡¡¡Gracias por tu servicio gratuito a Dios por medio de la Catequesis!!! ¿Sabes lo qué significa Epifanía? – para la Iglesia Católica significa “dar a conocer”, “revelación” o “mostrar”. Es pues el día de Epifanía donde la Iglesia Católica celebra la solemnidad del Niño Jesús, del Mesías, quien es revelado como la luz de las naciones. Pero siendo una celebración de tiempos antiguos, también significa la extensión de la salvación a los Gentiles. Pero debemos tener en cuenta que en esta solemnidad están incluidos tres misterios: La adoración del Niño Jesús por los Reyes Magos. 2. El Bautismo de Cristo. 3. Las bodas de Caná. La Epifanía es un día muy importante y sagrado que celebramos el doceavo día de la Navidad, contados a partir del día 25 de diciembre y terminando el día 6 de enero por la mañana Para nosotros los Católicos en Latinoamérica y España, es un día donde los Tres Reyes Magos nos traen regalos y ese día es conocido como “Fiesta de Reyes”. La mayoría de nosotros tenemos como la tradición de representar a los reyes trayendo los regalos que los niños les han pedido en sus cartas durante la noche anterior a la Epifanía. Es importante que tengamos en cuenta que los Tres Reyes Magos representan a las naciones paganas y esto según el Evangelio de la Infancia de Jesús según San Mateo significa: “que la Salvación no está reservada exclusivamente al Pueblo elegido, sino que es para todas las naciones. Asimismo, por su huida a Egipto y su vuelta a la Tierra prometida, Jesús aparece como otro Moisés, que se pone al frente de su Pueblo y lo conduce al Reino de Dios”. Por ser una fiesta importante, quiero ofrecerte una Oración escrita por el Padre Al Lauer: ORACION Jesús, viniste para que tengamos vida y para que la tengamos en plenitud. Muchas Gracias por ser “Dios con nosotros”. Señor, ayúdanos a recordar que en realidad nunca estamos solos, incluso en los momentos más oscuros de nuestras vidas. Tu presencia amorosa siempre está ahí dándonos el poder espiritual que necesitamos para poder superar todos los obstáculos. Tu mediación perfecta al Padre siempre nos da la gracia para ir hacia adelante en su plan, aunque no lo entendamos. Tu amor es inagotable y Tu ayuda nunca cesa. Amén. A RECORDAR ….. BAPTISM/BAUTIZOS Please register at the Parish Office. Parents and Sponsor will be required to take the Pre-Baptismal Class at least one month in advance. You will be required to present your Childs Birth Certificate at the time of registration. Baptisms and Classes are held once a month. Por favor regístrese en la oficina parroquial. Los padres y el Patrocinador deberán tomar la Clase Pre-Bautismal por lo menos con un mes de anticipación. Se le pedirá que presente su certificado de nacimiento del niño en el momento de la inscripción. La Clase se realizan una vez al mes. Y Los bautizos en Español son el Segundo y Cuarto Sábado del Mes.

You will need a recent copy your Baptismal certificate and a copy of Confirmation certificate. QUINCEAÑERA Please contact the parish Office at least six months in advance. Quinceañeras will need to attend a class.
