Bei Patrizia Ferrara reicht der Gesang eben aus um uns im Innersten zu erreichen. Ganz stark ist „Back Home“ bei dem Patrizia Ferrara ihren eigenen stimmlichen „Back Ground Chorus“ erzeugt und bis auf etwas Percussion Patrizia Ferrara pur, in verschiedenen Lagen, zu hören ist. Die Songs dürfen atmen, Atmosphäre sammeln und strahlen damit ein Meer (mehr) an Stimmungen aus. Die Aufnahmen sind auch tontechnisch hervorragend in Szene gesetzt, man hört jeden Atemzug, der von Patrizia Ferrara sogar als Rhythmuselement eingesetzt wird und das Album so menschlich macht. Ja, hier singt eine Frau aus Fleisch und Blut, keine computerisiert- perfektionierte Unpersönlichkeit, sondern eine Sängerin, die all ihre Empfindungen in die Songs, ja sogar jedes einzelne gesungene Wort, legt. In den ganz leisen Passagen hört man Ferraras filigranes Vibrato, das beispielsweise dem italienischen „Sant’allegria“ jede Menge Charme schenkt. Es sind eben die „Simple Things“ die das Leben so lebenswert gestalten. Diese Erfahrung hat sicher auch Minnie Riperton, die großartige Soul Sängerin gemacht, die mit nur 31 Jahren an Brustkrebs verstarb. Ihren Song als titelgebende Nummer für das Album auszuwählen war die richtige Entscheidung, denn er offenbart sehr deutlich, worum es in „Simple Things“ geht, nämlich um „simple songs“ mit einem Maximum an Atmosphäre. Patrizia Ferrara’s singing is enough in itself to strike a deep chord within us. For example, in the song “Back Home” Patrizia Ferrara uses her own voice to create the background chorus, with the result that, with the exception of some percussion, we can hear Ferrara unadulterated and pure in many parts of the song. It is as if the songs are breathing; they create atmosphere and exude a sea of sentiments. The quality of sound of the recordings is also excellent - we hear each breath; Ferrara even uses this as part of the rhythm. It is what gives the album such a human touch. Yes, here is the work of a woman of flesh and blood; not a computer-enhanced impersonal character, rather a singer who puts her heart and soul not only into each song, but into each word that’s sung. In the really quiet passages, we can hear Ferrara’s filigree vibrato, which lends a lot of charm to tracks such as the Italian “Sant’allegria”. It is after all the “Simple Things” that make life worth living. Minnie Riperton, the legendary soul singer who died of breast cancer aged 31, surely had the same experience.
