ABOUT THE ARTISTS Australian baritone David Greco has sung throughout Europe’s finest concert halls, from the Théâtre des Champs Elysées to Vienna Konzerthaus, last year making his debut at the Royal Concertgebouw, Amsterdam. As a soloist he has worked on the cutting edge of the early music movement in Europe, having been engaged by and toured with some of the most exceptional ensembles, including Freiburg Barokorchester, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the Academy of Ancient Music and Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. At home, David regularly appears as a soloist with some of Australia’s finest ensembles, including the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Pinchgut Opera and Australian Haydn Ensemble. In 2016 David made his debut as a principal artist with Opera Australia in The Love of Three Oranges and The Eighth Wonder, and performed with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in performances of the Mozart Missa Brevis. Performances in 2017 include appearances with Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, Pinchgut Opera and multiple recitals at Melbourne Recital Centre, performing with Latitude 37, Erin Helyard and more. Erin Helyard (fortepiano) has been acclaimed as an inspiring conductor, a virtuosic and expressive performer of the harpsichord and fortepiano, and as a lucid scholar who is passionate about promoting meaningful discourse between musicology and performance. Erin is particularly active in reviving in both score and performance neglected 17th and 18th century opera including works by Handel, Vivaldi, Grétry, Salieri, Gluck, Cavalli and Charpentier. As Artistic Director and co-founder of the celebrated Pinchgut Opera and the Orchestra of the Antipodes, Erin has forged new standards of excellence in historically-informed performance in Australia. Under his direction, multiple operas have been awarded ‘Best Opera’ at the Helpmann Awards for two consecutive years (2015 and 2016). As a performer, Erin was recently described as 'Australia’s most engaging soloist' by Limelight magazine (2016). In 2017 Erin was awarded a major Australian Research Council Discovery Grant for a collaborative project with colleagues at the University of Sydney, Oxford University, and the Australian National University (Performing Transdisciplinarity: Image, Music, and Text in Eighteenth-Century Print Culture). Engaged through the University of Melbourne-Melbourne Recital Centre Learning Partnership. Melbourne Recital Centre acknowledges the people of the Kulin nation on whose land this concert is being presented.
