MATHILDA

Say what you will about Portugal or the Portuguese people, but if there is something they can’t be accused of it is of not having music running through their veins. Their tradition, when it comes to singer-songwriters, is a long one and it is in the final paragraphs of this already extended history that we find Mathilda, the musical alter ego of Mafalda Costa (Guimarães, February 18, 2000). Mafalda finds comfort in this term, which is nothing, more than a simple variation of the Germanic Mahalta from which derives her own name. She uses this alter ego to expose frailties, accompanied by either a ukulele or an electric guitar. In concert she has the support of Diogo Alves Pinto, better known for his one-man band Gobi Bear, who plays percussions and the guitar. With roots buried deep in the Planalto Records family (a home to folk music, molded in this seaside planted garden), which helped her edit "Lost Between Self Expression and Self Destruction" in the end of 2017 – the single that granted her the spot of finalist in the renowned Termómetro Festival.
