Person-environment fit (P-E fit) is the compatibility between an individual and a work environment that occurs when their characteristics are well matched
•
P-E fit – perception plays an important role for job satisfaction and hence employment quality and outcome
•
Research shows that job seekers rarely undertake overall calculative comparisons between one’s core values and those of the organization
•
Individuals make decisions to adapt their behavior based on perceived fit
•
The use of multiple job information sources is positively related to applicant perceptions of P-E fit

Person-organization (P-O) fit: congruence of the personality traits, beliefs and values of the employee with the culture, strategic needs, norms and values of the organization. Person–group (P-G) fit: similarity between the newcomer and members of his or her immediate work group. Person–supervisor (P-S) fit: congruence between supervisor and subordinates personality dimensions, values and goals.
Person-function (P-F) fit: relationship between a person’s characteristics and those of the job or the tasks that are performed at work
