Plymouth written at Ville Franche, mailed from Nice (Feb 13) to Philadelphia, USA via London (Feb 22). Very rare three colour Bordeaux issue usage, also note the time taken between Nice and London due to the turbulent state of Paris just after the Siege- usually a two day journey, this cover taking nine days. ‚2 Cents‘ in red at left applied on arrival; 20 c. with small marginal repair. A very scarce and attractive cover. Signed Calves. Cert.Vachant (2010).

Blue Symphony – The 1840/58, TWO PENCE plate 1 – 6 plating study The following 50 lots comprise a specialised study of the Line Engraved TWO PENCE plates 1 - 6 in use from 1840 until 1858. Three different types of alphabets, two different watermarks and three different ways of separating (imperf., perf. 14 and perf. 16) were used on the six plates in various combinations. This makes the blue 2d.’s a highly interesting field for the specialist in British Line Engraved issues. The original presses used by Perkins Bacon & Co. to print the 1840-1858 blue Two Pence stamp.
