Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church Missionaries of the Holy Spirit

Dear Brothers and Sisters, For the past 31 years, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church has been a beacon of hope and the home for spiritual renewal for our community. Our diverse church has been a witness for countless baptisms, confirmations, marriages and funerals. It has hosted the ordination of new priests and witnessed the vibrancy of our youth as they embark on their faith journey. It has been the setting of thousands of liturgical celebrations, adorations, and popular devotions that allow our community to experience and be enlightened by Christ’s love. It is a church of welcome, a church of pilgrimage, and a church of love. However, to continue our ministry at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, we will need your help. The roof of our church building is in dire need of replacement. Our parish has started a fundraising campaign to raise $180,000 to replace the church roof and allow us to continue to be the source of God’s Word in our community. Would you please give your most generous gift toward this vision and partner with us in impacting our faith community? Your help will allow us to preach the gospel, make disciples, and support others in our community who need help. Even if you can’t make a large gift, know that every little bit helps. It’s more about coming together as a community united behind a common cause. We hope that you’ll consider making a donation for our parish, our church, and our faith family. Yours in Christ, Fr. Jose Gerardo Alberto, M.Sp.S. Pastor P.S. If you would like to give by check, please make the check out to “St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church Roof Project”. If you would like to give online, please go to our online giving page in the parish website and select “Give A New Gift” and “Capital Campaign-ROOF”. All gifts are tax deductible.

Conchita, Tell Us about Your Life Conchita tells us about the Foundation of the Apostleship of the Cross Conchita’s personal spirituality became a true school of spirituality through the Five Works of the Cross she helped found: the Apostleship of the Cross, the Sisters of the Cross of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Covenant of Love with the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Fraternity of Christ the Priest, and the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit. The Apostleship of the Cross is the first one to be founded in 1895. Conchita tells us: “In February 1894 my spiritual director, Fr Mir, SJ, wrote to me – You will save many souls, but through the apostleship of the Cross. He meant that I would save many souls uniting my sacrifices to those of my Lord! But when I read apostleship of the Cross for the first time, I felt something extraordinary, something wonderful. I felt an interior illumination that made me understand that not only I could be apostle of the cross, but thousands of souls with me. That was the origin of the APOSTLESHIP OF THE CROSS. I drafted the first copy of the Statutes for this Association, Fr Mir corrected them, and I made a clean copy. I took the Statutes to Jesus, so He could bless them and give them life. When I was finished taking communion, He said to me: the goal of this apostolate is to lovingly offer one’s suffering in order to obtain the salvation or many souls.” These statutes have been modified with the passing of time, so they can be more updated and more easily adapt to the present reality. The essential commitment in the Apostleship of the Cross is to offer Jesus, Priest and Victim, and offer ourselves with Him in the crosses of our daily lives, accepting the Will of the Father in the obedience His children should lovingly show Him; moved by the Holy Spirit and in union with Mary Most Holy. This spirituality requires frequent and persevering prayer. We celebrate the birth of this work on May 3, 1895. This work is for everybody and within everybody’s reach.

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church Missionaries of the Holy Spirit

Queridos hermanos y hermanas:

A WAITING HARVEST

Vocation Awareness

This is just what Priests do! Priests Instruct Others about Jesus Christ and His Teachings. Part I The Young Married Group at our parish had only recently formed and they were a delightful group of young adults, excited about their faith. They had been meeting monthly, having meals and social, but they also wanted to grow in their faith. Various speakers were invited to each gathering to discuss various aspects of Catholic teaching. They told me, “Father, we don’t care what you talk about. Just teach is about Jesus.” I prayed every day that week during my Holy Hours for the Lord to show me what issue he wanted me to address. I began to get fairly clear message—a message that I did not really want to hear. I felt like the Lord was asking me to talk to these young couples about the Church teaching on artificial contraception and

natural family planning (NFP). Suspecting that the presentation might not be well received by some of the couples, especially since some of the spouses were not Catholic, I was nervous. So I worked very hard to craft a gentle presentation designed to invite the couples to revisit the issue of family planning in their marriages. The couples were respectful and they looked at me and listened politely. I watched their faces for signs of disagreement, anger, or frustration. Clearly, some of them were not very interested. From the Book “To Save a Thousand Souls” Fr. Brett A. Brannen

O Jesus, Our Eternal Pastor, Deign to look with merciful eyes Upon this part of your loving flock. Lord, we need a large number of priests, and men and women consecrated to the religious life. Multiply vocations, And sanctify more and more our priests, And those consecrated in the religious life.

This week please pray for Alex Nelson. He is a seminarian with the Archdiocese of Seattle. He is taking Theology II classes at Mount Angel Seminary, in Oregon.

We ask you all this through the Immaculate Virgin Mary of Guadalupe, your sweet and holy Mother. Jesus give us priests according to your heart. Jesus, savior of all people, save them, save them! T y p o l o g y Journal Entry #2: Everyday Faith in Christ Kianna Garmanian

Has anyone told you today that you are beautiful and dearly loved by our Lord? If not, please allow me to be the first to share those truths with you! In fact, you are so cherished by Christ that he desires to be in an intimate and personal relationship with you- how special! Last week, I shared with you an entry from my faith journal. As I mentioned, my hope in sharing these entries is to help inspire and encourage you on your own faith journey. With that, this week’s entry was written this past summer when I visited the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart for an 8-day service retreat in Alhambra, California. August 4, 2018- 10:50 AM I am amazed and left in awe at how incredibly faith-driven these Carmelite Sisters are. Everything, I mean EVERYTHING in their day is related to Jesus, the faith, and prayer. It’s truly incredible and inspirational for me to witnesstheir lives are fully consumed by Christ and His love. They greet one another saying, “Praised be Jesus Christ” and “God reward you” and are constantly making out-loud professions of their faith. Every task is related to faith. One of the sisters exclaimed with such joy how much love she receives from God after eating a single blueberry, since blueberries are her favorite fruit! When the garbage truck didn’t pick up the weekly trash, the sisters said, “Looks like Jesus has different plans for us. Please pray that the garbage gets taken out.” See what I mean? Anything and everything is brought back to prayer and praising the name of Christ. The way these sisters bow down and consecrate themselves to our Savior is beyond amazing. By observing such beauty, my service work has become much more fruitful as I am truly learning about the meaning of Christcentered service. These Carmelite sisters, through their words and examples, are reminding me of the difference between worldly goods/ accomplishments and heavenly ones. In fact, it’s a reflection of myself and how much I am still attached to earthly matters/concerns, which have no importance Kianna has been a parishioner at whatsoever when it comes to the faith and eternal life. My prayer this week is to be SEAS together with her family since able to detach, by the grace of God, from the grasp of the world, so that I may be 2007. She is now a junior at St Martin’s more consumed by Christ and open to his transformative love in my life. University in Lacey. After her Confirmation here in 2014, she was a My dearest brothers and sisters, I invite you to make an examination of wonderful addition to the Fire Team conscience and spend some time praying about areas in your life that may potentially helping bring other youth to Christ. We be blocking you from growing closer to Christ. I hope that you are able to find are delighted to have her collaboration inspiration from the wonderful examples of the Carmelite sisters, who inspired me in for this page. so many ways. God bless!

How to Advent

By Laurie Medina

Part I

‘TIS THE SEASON OF ADVENT! This is probably my favorite liturgical season — can’t you tell I am just a little bit excited? It’s December, it’s cold outside, you’ve got your cozy sweater on, the Christmas trees are up, the lights are on, the cocoa is served, the church is decked out, the Advent wreath is up by the altar, maybe there’s even a nativity scene set up with one noticeable figure missing in the middle … All these changes signal the start of a very important season, but in order to get the best out of Advent, we have to do a little bit more than decking the halls and putting the good silver out. I ’m going to give you some ideas on how to get started.

The Youth Ministry is looking for new volunteers to join the team that helps our youth get closer to Christ. Contact the Youth Minister: Roberto Perez Phone: 425.481.9358 Ext. 312 Email: [email protected]

an In the Eucharist we find all the good of the Church. In it we have the certainty that God is faithful to His promise and stays with us until the end of time. In our visits and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, we experience the closeness of the good shepherd, the tenderness of His love, the presence of a faithful friend. We all experience this large support in our lives provided by faith and our personal and intimate dialogue with the Lord in the Eucharist. Come Adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament Monday through Friday from 10am to 9pm.
