This week we will celebrate our country’s Independence Day, our yearly reminder of the freedoms we enjoy in the United States of America and a call to thank God for them. It is worth recalling some of the sentiments expressed by our Founding Fathers in the Declaration of Independence that they adopted on July 4, 1776: “When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the Separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” Whatever anyone may say about the religious convictions and faith of the Founding Fathers, we would be wise as a nation to recall these important words. On this holiday of our independence, let us as Catholics and Christians offer prayers for our country. Let us be grateful for the many freedoms we enjoy. And let us not be blind to where we have failed to ensure freedom, especially for the unborn, and also for the stranger among us. May God bless America, and may He secure for many generations to come the blessings of Life, Liberty, and the Happiness that only God can give. Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas, pray for us! -Fr Paul

3 Esta semana celebraremos el Día de la Independencia de nuestro país. Esta festividad es un recordatorio anual de la libertad que disfrutamos en los Estados Unidos de América y un llamado a agradecer a Dios por ella. Vale la pena recordar algunos de los sentimientos expresados por nuestros Padres Fundadores en la Declaración de Independencia que adoptaron el 4 de julio de 1776:

In cooperation with the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis’s (ArchSPM) Catholic Services Appeal and Center for Mission within the Missionary Cooperation Plan, the Parish of Saints Joachim & Anne is cordially welcoming Fr. Ramirez. The Center for Mission promotes and coordinates mission Fr. Ramirez will be celebrating outreach for the ArchSPM. They help build bridges of cooperation Mass on Sun. The commitment is for one year and requires a weekly hour of prayer for Fr. Erik or Fr Paul.
