PASTOR’S Reflection

B

reaking Open the Word of God:

Dear brothers and sisters, the Word of God on this Sunday encourages us to bring the kingdom of God to our world. The first reading speaks of the arrival of the spiritual Kingdom of God to the earth in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost. In those days, Jesus had commanded his disciples not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of the Father. When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. And suddenly, from the sky, there was a noise like the blast of a violent wind, which filled the whole house where they were sitting. Tongues divided, like fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. (Acts 2: 1-3) On the Day of Pentecost, the invisible Kingdom of God was officially established on earth the same way it was established in Heaven at the Ascension of our Lord Jesus. Today's second reading from the Letter to the Galatians teaches us that in order to bring the kingdom of God to our personal world, we should not boast of anything other than the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. In the days of St. Paul, some boasted of circumcision or uncircumcision. Today, some may boast of having a good vehicle to take them to church or have beautiful clothes compared to others. Some may even boast of being more involved in the Church than others who are paid employees. St. Paul tells us that all these external mundane things mean nothing. The most important thing in the Christian life is to be born again, this being the first step towards our transformation into the likeness of Christ. Jesus appointed seventy-two disciples and sent them before Him in pairs to each town and place where He himself intended to go. When the seventy returned with joy, they told Jesus that even the demons submitted to them in the Name of Jesus. To this, Jesus replied: "I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning." Consequently, Satan, the adversary who argued before the Heavenly Throne as a prosecuting attorney against the people of God, can no longer press charges against those who belong to the Body of Christ. In view of this, we know the following: 1) When the seventy-two disciples announced that "the Kingdom of God has come near you," Satan was expelled from heaven. 2) When Jesus rose and ascended to heaven, he took possession of the heavenly Kingdom. He was the first fruit of all creation. He was the first to resurrect and enter the Kingdom of God as the King of kings. 3) When the day of Pentecost arrived and the Holy

Spirit descended upon the disciples, the invisible Kingdom of God came to earth as it is in Heaven. By understanding these truths, by the grace of God, our eyes have opened and now we can bring the kingdom of God to our world. While some may continue to wait for what has already arrived, the arrival of the Kingdom of God to earth, we are happy to know that it has arrived.

W

alking together as brothers and sisters:

Dear brothers and sisters, God promised to bring his kingdom to our world and he has done so. As children of the Kingdom of God, we boast about the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Give thanks to God for bringing His kingdom to your world. Throughout this week, thank God that through his abode on earth, you can receive the precious Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist that nourishes your soul abundantly towards eternal salvation. . Fr. Jose Gerardo Alberto, MSpS

REFLEXION del

M

A WAITING HARVEST

Vocation Awareness

Generous Single Life in Christ Part II For the vocations of marriage, priesthood and religious life, the Church offers specific programs of preparation. We offer pre-Cana courses for marriage, seminary for priesthood, and novitiate for the religious life. The Church has developed a theology of marriage, priesthood and religious life and offers specific directives as to how these vocations should be lived according to the design of God. But the Church does not offer training program for the generous single state in life and there is no developed theology. For the faithful men and women who are striving to live the generous single life, there is an obvious dearth of information and support. How exactly are they supposed to live? What particular work should they do for the Church? In my experience, single people can become discouraged by this lack of clear direction and support. Usually, these are things that a single person must work out in prayer, experimentation, and spiritual direction. These are all reasons why this vocation is so difficult and frustrating at times.

some man or woman would come up after Mass and say, “Father, thank you for saying that. I’ve never been married, and people ask me, “Why? What’s the matter with you?’ But Father, I don’t feel called to marriage or any of the other vocations. My work is to serve the Church in the generous single state.” The single vocation is a call form God, a state in life however one might arrive there. While perhaps not as well-defined as other vocations, it is a legitimate call from God to live one’s life, and to generously serve the Church in a certain way.

I know of a single man who greatly desired priesthood in his youth and pursued it, without going into details, it was not to be. Once that became clear, he prayed and worked very hard to prepare himself for Holy Marriage. He tried very hard to find the right woman. But that also, through a long painful process of trial and error, was not to be. He went through a period of frustration with God and anger toward the Church. He was such a good man and Nonetheless, it seems clear that a single person, in virtue desperately desired to serve generously. He asked me again of the very freedom mentioned above (the lack of being and again, “Why won’t God show me my vocation? I want cemented), is in a position to serve the Church in ways that to do his will.” people in the other vocations are not. Therein lies one of the From the Book most important reasons, in my opinion, why God calls “To Save a Thousand Souls” some people to be single. As a vocation director, whenever Fr. Brett A. Brannen I would speak of single life at a parish, it never failed that

With the Heart of Jesus CLARE’S PLACE is in need of donations:

In the Eucharist we find all the good of the Church. In it we have the certainty that God is faithful to His promise and stays with us until the end of time. In our visits and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, we experience the closeness of the good shepherd, the tenderness of His love, the presence of a faithful friend. We all experience this large support in our lives provided by faith and our personal and intimate dialogue with the Lord in the Eucharist. Come Adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament Monday through Friday from 10am to 9pm.

Cancer Survival Kit Already in a basket in the Eucharistic Chapel, Cancer Survival Kits have been put together by the Catholic Daughters with your generous donations. Please grab one, along with our prayers for anyone suffering from cancer.

The St. Vincent de Paul Ministry would like to thank you for your generous support of our work. We are so blessed! As you make your plans for your summer vacation, please keep in mind that poverty does not take a vacation. Neighbors in our community are struggling day-in and day-out to stay in their homes, pay their utility bills, and put food on the table for their family. In the last 6 weeks, we have visited 72 families - over 10 families each week. Your prayers and your generosity are their hope. Thank you for joining us in showing our neighbors in need the love and compassion of Jesus.

We now have video surveillance cameras in our hallways due to the increased vandalism in the restrooms. This is the house of God, we need to care for it.
