One of the ways I embrace getting uncomfortable (to increase my momentum) is by immersing myself into books that will open my mind and shift my way of thinking. To help you explore new worlds in the New Year, I’ve compiled a list of 10 books that I am going to dive into for 2017—all for the sole purpose of filling my mind with new ideas and insights. Now, all of these selections—a mix of mindset, marketing, sales and customer service books—are not new. However, these are books that I’ve been meaning to read. They’re recommended by people I trust all and I can’t wait to dive in. I hope you enjoy! #1: Keep it Simple: Unclutter Your Mind to Uncomplicate Your Life by Joe Calloway Quick shot: Keep it Simple is about exactly what you think it is: how to keep your life and business simple. Why now: I created episode 131 all about beating overwhelm, and it’s constantly on my mind, for you AND for me. So any book that helps me simplify my life and business, I’m all for it. Also, since I live by the motto, “Keep it Simple; Get Fancy Later”, this book speaks to me! #2: The Ultimate Sales Machine: Turbocharge Your Business with Relentless Focus on 12 Key Strategies by Chet Holmes Quick shot: The Ultimate Sales Machine provides practical strategies to improve your business in the areas of management, marketing and sales. Holmes focuses on 12 critical impact areas that help to drive your business growth. Why now: I have known about Holmes since my Tony Robbins days, and I always wanted to pick up one of his books. Now’s the time to do it!

#3: Pre-Suasion: A Revolutionary Way to Influence and Persuade by Robert Cialdini Quick shot: Pre-Suasion is the book to read if you want to learn the art of influencing people and winning them over – what to say, how to say it and most important when to say it. Why now: Influence by Cialdini is one of my favorite business books, hands-down. So when I heard he had a new book out, in my mind it’s a must-read.

#4: Ask: The Counterintuitive Online Method to Discover Exactly What Your Customers Want to Buy...Create a Mass of Raving Fans...and Take Any Business to the Next Level by Ryan Levesque Quick shot: Ask is about figuring out what people really want to buy and how to deliver it to them, making them fall in love with you and your company in the process. Why now: I heard this book by Levesque has changed how many online marketers do business. Also: I want to survey my audience more in the New Year, so I think this is the perfect impetus to do just that!

#5: Stand Out: How to Find Your Breakthrough Idea and Build a Following Around It by Dorie Clark Quick shot: Stand Out helps you identify your unique perspectives and ideas and how to promote them so you can become a recognized expert in your field. Why now: I admittedly don’t know as much about this book, but I’m always interested in finding new ways to build my brand, and developing my strengths. Plus, a lot of my students struggle with finding the right idea for their business and I want to better support them!

#6: All About Them: Grow Your Business by Focusing on Others by Bruce Turkel Quick shot: All About Them is a book about how to focus your brand on the right target: your customer, and not yourself. You’ll learn about the power of storytelling, story-selling, and brand authenticity and transparency. Why now: Love this reminder that my business is never about me, it’s about how you feel and the courses I put out, the services I provide, the value I give.

#7: Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World by Cal Newport Quick shot: Deep Work will teach you how to “go deep,” and focus without distraction on the tasks that are really important to you. Why now: Part of the “getting out of overwhelm” piece is finding the right focus for your business. Looking forward to this one helping me hone in on what’s important in 2017.

#8: Tools of Titans: The Tactics, Routines, and Habits of Billionaires, Icons, and World-Class Performers by Tim Ferriss Quick shot: Tools of Titans explores the tactics, routines and habits of nearly 200 leaders and influencers, allowing you to benefit from their mistakes and successes. Why now: I’ve mentioned this many times and I’ll write it again—BIG fan of Tim Ferriss. I also love books that tell me the habits of great people and what they’re doing. So this one is a keeper.

#9: Pitch Anything by Oren Klaff Quick shot: Pitch Anything is a reliable toolkit to develop effective pitches for any kind of business situation. Why now: This is another one that’s been on the list for a while—I have heard this is a must read for any entrepreneur.

#10: Success Through Stillness: Meditation Made Simple by Russell Simmons Quick shot: Simmons gleans insights from masters of meditation, and shows the connection between inner peace and outward success through interviews with other successful thought leaders. Why now: I wanted to offer one non-business book in the bunch, and loving this 2015 book by the hip-hop mogul. I like how simple he keeps it, and it’s another piece to reinforce me on the importance of meditation.
