ALL SAINTS CHURCH LA IGLESIA DE TODOS LOS SANTOS

Sixth Sunday of Easter Sexto Domingo de Pascua May 6, 2018 A Progressive Expression of the Body of Christ 10 Irving Street Worcester, Massachusetts 508-752-3766 www.allsaintsw.org

Welcome to All Saints Church! All Saints Church is a Christ-centered, joy-filled community that is blessed by your presence. Be assured that no matter who you are or where you are in your journey of faith, you are welcome here. Sunday School begins at 9:50 a.m. downstairs. Nursery care for infants to 3 year olds is available from 9:00-11:30 am, next to the Guild Room. Youth are invited to meet downstairs after the psalm for youth group. If you are a newcomer, please fill out a visitor blue card and give it to a member of the clergy. Please join us for coffee hour in Huntington Hall, through the double doors to your left, after worship! "CHRIST IS RISEN! ALLELUIA!" The Fifty Days of Easter are the Church's most celebratory season. Christ's Resurrection has given us confidence that life and love have conquered death, that nothing can separate us from God. At All Saints one way we signify the holiness and joy of Easter's seven Sundays is with bells and incense. The ringing of bells at the Sanctus, "Holy, Holy, Holy," and at the elevation of the consecrated bread and wine is an ancient Christian liturgical practice signifying the sacramental presence of Christ in our midst. For centuries, incense has been symbolic of the prayers of the faithful as well as the sanctification of people and places. At the Offertory the altar and the congregation are censed and therefore blessed by the Celebrant and the Thurifer. At All Saints, incense at the Procession is usually reserved for All Saints Sunday, Christmas, Easter Sunday, and Pentecost. As the Psalmist tells us, “Let my prayer be set forth in thy sight as the incense..." (Ps. 141)

THE WORD OF GOD

LA PALABRA DE DIOS

First Reading: Acts 10:44-48

Primera Lectura:Hechos 10:44–48

While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard the word. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles, for they heard them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter said, "Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?" So he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they invited him to stay for several days.

Second Reading: 1 John 5:1-6

Segunda Lectura: 1 San Juan 5:1–6

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the parent loves the child. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For the love of God is this, that we obey his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome, for whatever is born of God conquers the world. And this is the victory that conquers the world, our faith. Who is it that conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? This is the one who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only but with the water and the blood.

And the Spirit is the one that testifies, for the Spirit is the truth.

said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. permanezco en su amor.

It is truly right to glorify you, Father, and to give you thanks; for you alone are God, living and true, dwelling in light inaccessible from before time and for ever.

Fountain of life and source of all goodness, you made all things and fill them with your blessing; you created them to rejoice in the splendor of your radiance.

El Celebrante continúa:

Te aclamamos, santo Señor, glorioso en poder. Tus grandes obras revelan tu sabiduría y amor.

disobedience took us far from you, you did not abandon us to the power of death. In your mercy you came to our help, so that in seeking you we might find you. Again and again you called us into covenant with you, and through the prophets you taught us to hope for salvation.

Father, you loved the world so much that in the fullness of time you sent your only Son to be our Savior. Incarnate by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, he lived as one of us, yet without sin. To the poor he proclaimed the good news of salvation; to prisoners, freedom; to the sorrowful, joy. To fulfill your purpose he gave himself up to death; and, rising from the grave, destroyed death, and made the whole creation new.

And, that we might live no longer for ourselves, but for him who died and rose for us, he sent the Holy Spirit, his own first gift for those who believe, to complete his work in the world, and to bring to fulfillment the sanctification of all.

11

When the hour had come for him to be glorified by you, his heavenly Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end; at supper with them he took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, "Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me."

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me."

Father, we now celebrate this memorial of our redemption. Recalling Christ's death and his descent among the dead, proclaiming his resurrection and ascension to your right hand, awaiting his coming in glory; and offering to you, from the gifts you have given us, this bread and this cup, we praise you and we bless you.

Celebrant and People

Celebrante y Pueblo:

We praise you, We bless you, We give thanks to you, and We pray to you, Lord our God.

Te alabamos, Te bendecimos, Te damos gracias, y oramos a ti, Señor nuestro Dios.

The Celebrant continues

El Celebrante continúa:

Lord, we pray that in your goodness and mercy your Holy Spirit may descend upon us, and upon these gifts, sanctifying them and showing them to be holy gifts for your holy people, the bread of life and the cup of salvation, the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ.

Grant that all who share this bread and cup may become one body and one spirit, a living sacrifice in Christ, to the praise of your Name.

Remember, Lord, your one holy catholic and apostolic Church, redeemed by the blood of your Christ. Reveal its unity, guard its faith, and preserve it in peace.

And grant that we may find our inheritance with the Blessed Virgin Mary, with patriarchs, prophets, apostles, and martyrs, and all the saints who have found favor with you in ages past. We praise you in union with them and give you glory through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ, all honor and glory are yours, Almighty God and Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, forever and forever.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

For happiness I long have sought, And pleasure dearly I have bought: I missed of all; but now I see 'Tis found in Christ the apple tree.

His beauty doth all things excel: By faith I know, but ne'er can tell The glory which I now can see In Jesus Christ the apple tree.

I'm weary with my former toil, Here I will sit and rest awhile: Under the shadow I will be of Jesus Christ the apple tree.
