Introduction Philippine cinema in 2010 wrapped up the full first decade of the new millennium. Production was down to 28 major releases from the established big companies with Star Cinema remaining to be the most prolific studio. Digital features increased to almost a hundred titles and began to ape their mainstream counterparts in terms of genre configuration. No longer limited to gay-oriented, adult, and serious film fare, digital features branched out to encompass as well the all-too popular genres of romance, horror, comedy, and fantasy. e impact made by digital features was most felt as the year’s edition of Metro Manila Film Festival included an innovation – a selection of five entries that served as a prelude to the annual extravaganza. Needless to say, the concerned entries were low-cost, small-scale digital features all embodying the independent spirit. e year also saw certain mainstream efforts to break away from its mold. One was Emir – a full-fledged musical adding a twist to the tale of Pinoy diaspora. e people power revolt in Edsa became a stuff of romance in e Red Shoes. Filipinos had a stab at 3D with the animated feature, RPG Metanoia. Philippine cinema’s international presence was sustained with the earnestness of such films as Chassis, marking the first time for the country to land in the main competition at Mar del Plata in Argentina. documentary feature, made breakthrough waves as it bagged the foremost honor in its category in Amsterdam. Critics raved and ranted as a plethora of local releases vied for their nod and affirmation. At least three titles immediately stood out. Ang Paglilitis ni Andres Bonifacio, Sheika, and Ang Damgo ni Eleuteria were all commendable for seeking to reinvent ways to engage audiences and recast otherwise trite idioms of sustenance cinema. For this filmography, each entry contains: 1) the title of the film; 2) genre, running time (in hours and minutes), MTRCB classification; 3) short synopsis; and 4) production data.
