10/17/2014 Today we are practicing discussion. What I would like you to do is read the text below. At the marks that I’ve made, the little dots, you should underline something, write a question, or make a comment about what you just read. I want you to write as much as you can in the margins. After everyone has read we’ll break up into the small groups. Each group will read their pages again and take more notes while reading the second time. Then you will all have a conversation. I want you to try to participate. Ask Mirelys and Genesis to translate for you as much as they can and ask your questions or make your comments in Spanish. Mirelys and Genesis can translate what you say, as well, if you struggle to. I want you to say at least two things in the discussion. They can both be prewritten questions, if you’d like! Also, I want you to have at least one question written down on your paper that has something to do with a deeper meaning. Something like “Why do you think the old dog bothers Carlson so much?” or “Why do you think that George is still taking care of Lennie?” Write a question like that, one that doesn’t have a definite answer, but that you can argue with evidence from the book and then circle it and star it so I know which question it is. 17/10/2014 Hoy estamos practicando discusión.
